"KAGEYAMA, GET YOUR FUCKING shit together! what's gotten into you? god damn it!" coach ukai was practically screaming at tobio for his continuous mistakes during volleyball practice. "do me a favor. take a second and come back on the court when you're ready to actually fucking play."

after the events of the past two days, tobio couldn't bring himself to focus on anything other than you—which was oddly unusual due to the fact he prioritized his volleyball career over anything else. and it didn't help that he had the strictest coach of the century, who of which knew the capacity of his ability and constantly pressured him to play at his full potential, always, with no exceptions.

the raven, who currently had his heart beating out of his chest as well as immense sweat dripping from his body, angrily sat down on the bench next to kiyoko.

this was the first practice that ryu had attended in about two weeks. so that was obviously the explanation for kiyoko sitting stiff and uncomfortable, bouncing one of her legs up and down repeatedly,

"kiyoko, are you alright?" tobio wiped sweat off his forehead with his arm.

"huh? oh—yeah. i'm okay." kiyoko made eye contact with tobio, flashing him a quick smile before looking away. "are you okay, tobio? i'm really sorry about everything with y/n—" it was obvious that she was attempting to steer the conversation away from her.

"im fine."

kiyoko found his words difficult to believe after he had been struggling to focus the entire practice. "it's not, i can tell its really bothering you."

"i don't know, kiyoko." he placed his elbows on top of his thighs, allowing his head to rest on top of his hands, "like i don't understand how to feel and its so fucking confusing. i don't wanna talk about it."

kiyoko was pretty much speechless with his sudden outburst; her lips parting to at least say something to give him comfort yet nothing came out. she reached a hand to rub his back. other than the sounds of the volleyball team continuing their practice drills, there was silence before kiyoko finally spoke up,

"i know you probably don't wanna talk to me because y/n is my best friend, but as your volleyball manager you've become a brother to me, tobio." kiyoko paused to think before continuing, "and i'll be the first to tell you. one thing about y/n, she has her guard up high. my advice, don't take it to heart because that's just the way she is. constantly protecting her peace, being scared to fall in love, being scared of getting attached; all because she's afraid of getting hurt again."

tobio continued to sit in silence though he had visibly calmed down.

"but i get it. you have the right to be confused and upset. you've never been in a relationship, she was your first everything, the guy she kissed is literally your rival, blah, blah, blah—it makes sense."

"you could've been a little nicer about it, but yeah, i guess." tobio raised his head, making eye contact with kiyoko once more. "but thanks, kiyoko. i wish she knew that i wouldn't do anything to hurt her, but its done now. i just need time."

"time heals." kiyoko gave the boy another smile, though this time it was sympathetic and genuine.

"and y'know what also heals, buddy?"

shoyo jumps into the conversation randomly, abruptly taking a seat next to tobio on the bench, "some good ol' alcohol at this party we're going to tonight, hell yeah."

tobio shook his head. "absolutely not, sho. did not agree to that."

"kiyoko! please

"kiyoko! please...can we talk?"

ryu chased kiyoko to her car as soon as volleyball practice concluded.  it was impossible to ignore the man's hollering as he was already reaching for her shoulder by the time she made it to the driver's side door. "what, ryu? i don't have time for this."

"i'm so fucking sorry."

"oh! you're so sorry that you decided to go M.I.A. for two weeks and avoid all the shit you caused?" kiyoko yanked her car door open, taking a seat before slamming it closed.

kiyoko thought it was ridiculous that ryu was practically begging for forgiveness after 2 weeks of being completely silent. oh the difference it would've made if maybe he had just simply sent her a little text; at least checked in on her after completely shattering her heart.

"kiyo, honey, i just needed space. i fucked up, i know i did. i've never done this before." ryu's voice was muffled now, though his remorse was apparent on his face. "i miss you."

yet all ryu did was constantly think of himself. how he needed space. how he's never cheated before. how he missed her. from this moment, kiyoko learned that this was the exact reason it was never going to work out with him.

kiyoko sighed before reaching over to roll her window down. "i'm sorry ryu, but i'm not settling for this. the right person would never do this to me in a million years."

"it was a mistake. please give me a second chance, kiyoko. it won't happen again." he leaned his elbow against the door, resting his head on top of his hand.

kiyoko made eye contact with the apologetic man, not even feeling the slightest bit of guilt for him. truthfully, the only thoughts running through her mind was how badly she wanted to be with hitoka at the moment. she instantly began shaking her head.

"good bye, ryu."

she rolled the window up and drove off without looking back.
