"Mia!" Maya screamed, rushing forward, her heart racing with panic. She dropped to her knees beside Mia and began to check her over, desperate to assess her condition. Carina had run over too, kneeling beside Mia on the other side, her hands shaking with concern.
Carina felt for Mia's pulse, her brow furrowing as she realized it was weak. She looked at Maya, who was staring back at her, eyes wide with worry. "Her pulse is weak. I'm going to call 911," Carina said, urgency lacing her voice.
Maya, trembling as she focused on Mia, willed her to wake up. "Mia, Mia please! Wake up, Mia!" Her voice cracked.
Carina called 911, her voice shaking as she explained the situation through the phone. The operator's calm voice felt distant as panic surged within her. Tears welled up in her eyes as she glanced over at Maya, who had wrapped her arms tightly around an unconscious Mia, cradling her gently against her chest.
"Mia, please," Maya whispered, her voice breaking. She rocked slightly, as if trying to comfort her sister, hoping that her warmth would somehow reach Mia. As she held Mia close, she looked up to where Lane had been standing just moments before and saw that he was gone. A wave of anger and disappointment washed over her; she wasn't even remotely surprised that he had left without checking if Mia was okay.
Maya's protectiveness towards her sister instantly grew, a realization washing over her: she was now officially Mia's person, her only present biological family. In that moment, the bond between them felt stronger than ever, and she silently vowed to be everything Mia needed.
The sound of sirens in the distance brought a glimmer of hope. "Help is almost here, Mia, just hold on," she whispered again, brushing a strand of hair from Mia's face.

Mia was rushed to the hospital, the sound of the sirens loud as the ambulance sped through the city. Maya had climbed in beside Mia, her heart racing as she held Mia's hand tightly, desperate for her sister to wake up. Carina had followed in her car, promising Maya she would meet them at Grey Sloan.
Once they arrived at the hospital, the medical team wasted no time. They wheeled Mia into Trauma Room 2 and began assessing her condition. Doctors, including Dr. Teddy Altman, moved quickly, their voices blending into a blur as they shouted orders and worked to stabilize her. Maya was asked to step outside of the room; as much as she didn't want to leave, she complied and moved just outside the doors.
"Maya!" Carina ran toward her, wrapping her arms around Maya in a tight embrace. "What's happening? Is she awake?"
Maya shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I don't know. I just... I can't lose her, Carina."
At that moment, Teddy approached, her expression serious. "What's happening?" Maya asked.
"Mia is malnourished and severely dehydrated," Teddy explained, her voice steady but filled with concern. "We need to run more tests to understand the full extent of her condition."
Maya felt a chill run down her spine at the words, her heart heavy with worry, but alongside that fear simmered a deep anger towards her father. The fact that he was the one who had put Mia in this position made her skin crawl. She could hardly fathom how he could push his own daughter so far, further than he had ever done with herself, and the thought of him made her blood boil.
Carina could sense Maya's heightened emotions and placed a supportive hand on her lower back, offering a subtle motion of comfort. "Breathe, Maya," she murmured softly, trying to ground her wife.
Maya took a deep breath, trying to focus on Carina's words. As she simmered her anger down, she consciously redirected her thoughts, pushing aside the toxic emotions that Lane stirred within her.
