Evangeline's POV
Jayden looks at his sister and I can't tell how he is feeling. Her little boy and girl are just looking around, not knowing what's going on.
"Mommy, who's this?" the girl tugs on her hand.
"Kayla, Kayden, this is your uncle Jayden." she looks at her kids.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you." Jayden smiles.
"Hi. I'm Kayden." her son sticks his hand out.
"And I'm Kayla." Kayla hides behind her mother's legs.
"Here's your ice cream." the woman hands me and Jayden our ice cream.
"And here's yours." the man says.
"Do you want to go sit down?" I smile.
"Yeah." Jayla says.
We go to a small booth and sit in it. I can tell that neither one of then knows what to say so I decide to break the silence.
"Jayden has told me so much about you." I state.
"Really?" she seems surprised.
"Yep. And, they're all good things." I say.
"That's a relief. I'm sorry, but who are you?"
"I'm Evangeline."
"Like the one Ray was singing about." Kayla interrupts me.
"Yep. And I'm Jayden's girlfriend."
"Really? Those people let you date her?" Jayla asks.
"No, they don't know. Plus I moved out not to long ago."
"Why?"
"He beat me not to long ago, and she told me that I deserved it. So I left."
"Oh, I wish that I could've brought you to live with me that day. So much has happened in my life." Jayla smiles.
"Like, what?" Jayden looks at her.
"After having Kayden, Kevin and I got married. I sent you pictures, but I'm guessing they saw them first and destroyed them."
"Most likely." Jayden agrees.
"And a year later we had Kayla." she looks at her kids with love.
Jayden is about to say something when my phone starts to ring. I get it out of my pocket and see that it's my mama calling.
"Hello." I answer.
"Where are you?" my mama asks.
"Jayden took me for ice cream. I should be home in like three minutes." I tell her.
"Ok, I was just worried. Robin says hi."
"Tell her I said hey
and that she can go home."
"Ok, I will."
"Ok, bye." I say.
"Bye, see you soon. I love you."
"Bye, I love you too." I hang up. "I'm sorry, but I have to go home."
"That's fine. It's way past their bedtime anyway." Jayla stands up.
"Well, can I get your number before you leave?" Jayden asks.
