Chapter Fourteen: Lucy and Vlad

Present day. At Vlad's office...

Another glass decanter scattered against the dark papered walls. Vlad was seething with the notion that Holmwood and the others were still unfound. It was like they literally vanished in thin air. He did not let his anger show towards his people for they were all scrambling throughout the state now to find them. The glassware in his office did not stand a chance.

"I hope that was not from the crystal set I gifted you five years ago from the Czech Republic." The lyrical voice of Lucy rang out. Vlad turned to see the vampire walking through the double doors. From the scent that was lingering on her hair and clothes, she just came from Jordan's. "You damaged the paper." She pointed out, tapping at the fresh mark there.

"No. I keep them in the cabinet." Vlad gestured towards another wall where an antique Victorian wooden hunch was, full of crystal pieces. "Tell me something good." He rubbed his face in frustration while he went back to his desk. Lucy followed, perching herself on the edge.

"Well." Lucy started as she took his glass of blood for a sip. "They slipped up. Just an hour, Steward was caught by the police in Tacoma and tried to run. He is currently being held in their jail and with the assault charges from the realtor, he will be denied bail."

"When did you..." Vlad was interrupted by the sound of his cell phone pinging. A message from Derek about what Lucy just told him. "Good. I will have people there looking for Holmwood and Bellows." Vlad started to direct his people.

"That would be a waste of time." Lucy mused, pouring Vlad a fresh glass. "Steward is now a great liability to them, and I doubt they will even try to get him out. That and the oversea account have been successfully locked and completely drained along with their other bank account. No money, except for any cash they may have on hand. No allies here. They will run but not get far."

Vlad sat back in his chair that he turned to face the window. His eyes tracing the cityscape before him. "We will need to corner them and eliminate the threat." Vlad growled.

"Like the rabid animals that they are." Lucy commented while looking out the window. "I like this view. Not as bulky and stiff like London. Now, when will I get to see the house?" She pouted at Vlad.

"Tonight. I had my men clear all of her personal items from her condo early, taking it to our house so she can decorate it how she wants. I had the same thing done with my own condo. I am keeping the penthouse as a safe haven when it is necessary."

"How is the blending of hippy flower princess with brooding, Gothic Victorian styles going?" Lucy teased him.

"Rather well. If I was not undead, I would be worried about the fact that she wants to plant wolfbane and hemlock in the flowerbeds. I think she ordered some pink and white oleanders for the front garden."

"A woman after my own heart." Lucy beamed. She sighed, her eyes still staring out the window. "Did you ever think a hundred and some odd years ago that we would be in the new world, living as mortals?"

"No." Vlad answered her. He took a breath. "Do you hate me for turning you?" He asked, looking at the red-haired woman at his side.

A tiny smile played on her lips. "At first, yes. You were ripping away everything I planned in my life. Yet, I realized that I just needed to need to make a few adjustments. You allowed me a freedom that many women in that time would never have in their lifetimes. I was no longer a pawn or a breeding bitch. I, Lucy West, became her own person and master of her life." She reached out and caressed his cheek. "Thank you by the way."

Vlad nodded, pulling his face away. His eyes were dark and troubled. Like he wanted to say more. Lucy grabbed his chin and made him look at her. "Oh, you want...you swore that you never turn another." Lucy released his chin when she realized why he asked her that question.

"I can't lose her to death." Vlad admitted. His shoulders hunched and his voice low. "If she dies, I will join her in her grave."

"If you can't do it, I will turn Jordan." Lucy volunteered without hesitation. "It will be her decision and hers alone. You will have no say so, nor will you try to stop me." Lucy's voice was firm as she threated her sire.

"Only if her life will end." Vlad snapped at Lucy; his amber eyes blazed a bit.

"If she asks, I will." Lucy stood up from the desk. "I love her, Vlad. She is my dearest friend, and she deserves everything that I and you can give her. Even immortal if that is what she wants."

"This existence can be so cruel." Vlad fumed a bit as he stood from his desk and paced the floor of the office. "If she is turned, she will never know peace again. The hunger. The need to drink from humans. I..." Vlad was at a loss for the words.

"She is not Mina." Lucy expressed softly, rubbing his arm. "Jordan has lived with the knowledge of us for nearly two decades. It is not a rash decision to be made in the heat of the moment. Or by a mere girl on the cusp of womanhood." Lucy assured him.

"I will need to speak to Jordan about this." Vlad released the breath that he was holding.

"Good." Lucy replied. "I am off to meet with Derek and help with the hunt. I will call you later to see when the best time is to stop by for the house tour." She turned on her heels and headed for the door.

"Are you sure that you don't hate me?" Vlad asked again. Lucy turned back to him and smiled. Cupping his face, she gently pulled his face down to hers. She kissed his forehead, marring his skin with her red lipstick.

"No and neither will Jordan." She rubbed the tip of her nose to his and left him standing there to think about the future with Jordan.

Author's note: just wanted to show the relationship between Lucy and Vlad now. More like good friends who were able to keep their past relations from ruining things.

Vlad is conflicted about turning Jordan because he loves her. Like the scene from the 1992 movie when Gary Oldman felt guilty about turning Winona Ryder. She told him to take her away from all this death. That whole movie lives rent free in my head and heart.
