The final bell rang, meaning it was the end of classes and the campus was abuzz with activity. Students poured out of classrooms, chattering as they made their way to clubs, study sessions, or just enjoyed the freedom of the afternoon. Sunlight filtered through the tall windows, casting warm patterns on the tiled floors.
In the crowded hallway, Boboiboy and Lia strolled together, their laughter rising above the crowds of students. They exchanged playful banter, clearly enjoying each other's company. With a wave to their friends, they turned toward the library, where they planned to spend the rest of the afternoon and try to get some homework done so they can relax back at their respective homes.
Yaya was busy gathering books for her volunteer tutoring session. She balanced a stack of notebooks with practised ease, pausing to offer a warm smile and a small chat to passing classmates. Ying was checking her schedule for the day, muttering to herself about squeezing in a library visit before her robotics club meeting. Gopal, on the other hand was already making a run for it to the canteen, loudly proclaiming his mission to taste-test every snack available.
Fang, meanwhile, waited for Leizel near the door. His expression was calm and detached as he waited for the new student to finish packing her things in her backpack. He perked up a bit when he spotted Leizel approaching and tried to maintain a calm and cool composure.
"Ready?" he asked, keeping his voice neutral.
Leizel nodded, her gaze steady. "Lead the way."
Fang turned and led her through the busy campus. As they passed clusters of students—some chatting animatedly, others racing to beat club deadlines—he noticed how Leizel drew subtle attention. People's eyes lingered, drawn by her calm presence despite the lively environment around her. Fang wonders if she notices people staring, or if she was just simply ignoring.
The martial arts club was located in a quieter wing of the campus, away from the usual bustle. Fang paused at the door to the training hall, glancing at her. "Just so you know, this isn't exactly easy," he said, a faint challenge in his tone.
Leizel tilted her head slightly, a hint of a smile playing at her lips. "Good. I don't like easy."
He suppressed the urge to smile back and pushed to open the door. The hall was alive with motion— students practicing strikes, grappling, and sparring on mats. The air was filled with focused grunts, the slap of feet against the floor, and the rhythmic swish of movement. Fang stepped aside, allowing Leizel to enter first. "Ladies first." He gestured, making Leizel chuckle in amusement. She walked in without hesitation, her eyes scanning the room with subtle interest.
"Hope you're ready for this," Fang said in a much more serious tone now.
Leizel met his gaze, her brown orbs revealing nothing but calm determination. "I always am."
For a brief moment, Fang felt a flicker of something he couldn't quite place—curiosity, perhaps. But he quickly dismissed it, turning away and masking his reaction with his usual cool guy demeanor.
Fang and Leizel walked into the room, weaving through pairs of students absorbed in their training. As they approached a group of older students observing a sparring match, Fang spotted the president of the martial arts club—Amir, a tall and well-built senior with sharp features and a commanding presence. Amir was mid-conversation with another member but paused when he noticed Fang's approach.
"Yo, Amir!" Fang called out, drawing the president's attention.
Amir turned, raising a thick eyebrow in mild surprise but with a wide grin. "What's up, Fang?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. "Didn't expect to see you so early."
