The sky over Pulau Rintis was painted with soft pinks and purples as the sun began to rise, casting long shadows over the quiet streets. It was still extremely early as Fang jogged steadily down the empty sidewalk, his breaths coming in steady puffs.
Kaizo's orders to keep up his training were strict after all, and Fang wasn't about to slack off, he knew how terrifying his older brother can be. The humanoid kept his pace, focused and alert as the cool morning air hits against his skin.
As he rounded a corner near the edge of town, something caught his eye. A small convenience store sat nestled between rows of closed shops, its neon sign flickering dimly. The glass doors slid open, and out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone familiar stepping inside—Leizel.
Fang slowed down and stopped as his curiosity piqued. A month has passed since Leizel arrived in Pulau Rintis but she was already a part of their group despite not having any powers like the rest of them. Leizel fits in well with their group, but even though she'd made friends with them, there was still a lot they didn't know about her.
In the store, Leizel stood by one of the shelves, scanning rows of ready to heat meals with tired eyes. She was dressed in what could only be described as an outfit she hastily thrown in together— an oversized white hoodie and a pair of simple black shorts that ended just above her knees. Her feet were slipped into plain slippers, and her black hair was tied back with her signature white ribbon in a low ponytail with a few loose strands framed her face, giving her a slightly messy, just-got-out-of-bed appearance.
She looked relaxed, but there was a hint of sleepiness in her movements. Fang lingered near the entrance, watching as she picked up meal and then seemed to debate with herself before putting it back.
"Morning." Fang said, his voice breaking the soft hum of the store's fluorescent lights, he decided to just go to her instead of staring at her.
Leizel turned, clearly startled, but quickly composed herself when she saw him. "Fang," She greeted, a bit of surprise mixed with mild embarrassment in her voice. "You're up early."
"Says the girl shopping for snacks at the crack of dawn," He replied, a teasing smirk tugging at his lips. He took a step closer, his red eyes flicking to the meal she'd just put down. "So.... cravings or early breakfast?"
"Couldn't sleep," Leizel admitted, crossing her arms loosely over her chest. "Figured I'd at least grab something to keep me awake, I didn't feel like cooking either." She turned back to the shelves, finally settling on a tuna-mayo onigiri wrapped in plastic. She glanced over at Fang, noticing the light sheen of sweat on his forehead and the steady rise and fall of his chest. "Were you running?"
"Yeah," He replied. Fang was dressed for a workout—a black turtleneck tank top that revealed his toned arms, paired with dark gray jogging pants and well-worn maroon running shoes. His breathing had already steadied from the jog, but the lingering energy made him bounce slightly on his heels. "I have to stay active. If I don't, I won't hear the end of it from my brother." He said, imagining what lectures Kaizo would give, making him shudder.
Leizel nodded absently, but her gaze lingered on him for a moment longer than usual. She noticed the way his muscles flexed slightly with each movement and how the morning light catching on his arms. A sudden, unexpected warmth rose in her chest, and she quickly averted her eyes, feeling her face heat up.
'What was that?' She thought, her heart beating a little faster, leaving her both giddy and a bit confused.
"You... have a brother?" She asked, trying to regain her composure, though her voice came out softer than she intended.
Fang paused, as if he hadn't meant to let that slip. "Yeah," He said, a bit more cautiously. "Older brother. He's... well, he's kind of intense about training."
