Chapter 12 [When Girls Cry]

You were in love. That's why it was so difficult to talk to Juno and you were denying or dismissing it all this time. You were over the moon, maybe lighting that candle and getting a girlfriend wasn't just a dream after all. Of course, that hinged entirely on her sharing those same feelings back. While she did indeed, you had no idea and you weren't exactly the best at picking up the signs while in a love induced haze.

Due to the overstimulation of excitement and dread of last night, you didn't exactly manage to sleep all too well so your friends decided to take you with them to the boys dorms' common room to just hang out a bit more. Now Legoshi and Jack were playing checkers against 2 herbivore students while you were sitting on the couch, more so just watching the game on TV alongside Durham who was leaning against the window. Occasionally you'd give advice to Legoshi and Jack but you weren't exactly a paragon of strategy at checkers so they were still losing. Eventually the game ended and was replaced by an unfortunate news report of a devouring.

"A tragedy occurred at dawn this morning on Iguni Street in Zebuth city. A group of carnivores suspected of devouring a 22 year old Thomson's gazelle named Linda. Bite wounds were found on her neck. The suspected carnivores are currently on the run from the police."

"Hm, it's a dangerous world out there sometimes isn't it? " Jack said

The atmosphere in the room however had definitely taken a nosedive. This was a rather sad but common occurrence, news of a devouring would come in and it would be the biggest thing on the news for the next 2 days. Naturally this would make herbivores quite cold to the carnivores for days at a time. You didn't really blame them, it was just a natural kind of response, plus you didn't really know what it's like from their eyes.

There hasn't been a reported human devouring since before you were even born. Had it been as common, maybe you would be more weary of carnivores, more cold and distant to them. Then again, the fact was, that isn't the case. You could see how the actions of the few carnivores like that affected the majority in a pretty negative way, just as you were about to further witness as the news report continued.

"A witness says there were 4 suspects, 2 grey wolves and 2 coyotes."

"This isn't good" one of the herbivores said

"I'll be in my dorm. I'll just say you guys win." the other continued, now both getting up and beginning to leave the room.

"But we were about to lose on the next move. " Legoshi said to no avail as it fell on deaf ears.

"Canines are known for their sociability and solidarity..." the news report continued but no one left was really listening to it by this point.

For one Jack seemed the most affected by it with Legoshi patting him on the head and Durham trying to comfort him a bit.

"Huh, cheer up. It's nothing we haven't seen."

It really did seem like Legoshi and Durham were used to this cycle but Jack still wasn't. After all, unlike them Jack was a canine that wasn't really feared quite as much considering how docile dogs were so he seemingly had far less exposure to this stuff than them. As for you, looking from the sidelines, you did feel bad for them. After all, they didn't do anything wrong, they just happened to be of the same species or type of animal that did but at the end of the day, this was normal in today's society and there wasn't much that could be done about it.

"Anyway, would you guys help me put this away?" Legoshi asked, beginning to clear the checkers board.

"Legoshi, Y/n, do you guys have club today?" Durham asked.

"Yea, in about an hour or so." you replied, getting up to help Legoshi.

As you got it sorted and left the room, you could feel the glares from the herbivores directed at your friends. While walking down the hall, you decided to check your pockets to see if you'd forgotten something just in case and low and behold, your phone wasn't there. Your guess is it probably fell between the couch pillows. You were about to announce you would be doing a 180 and going back but Legoshi beat you to it, having also forgotten something.
