Summery/Plot: The anime takes place in the Edo* period, Japan. X# of years before the first episode a war, humanity vs aliens, took place. Humanity fought back but aliens having the superior weapons held the advantage. Unfortunately one of the samurai betrayed the rest resulting with the humans who were forced/signed a treaty that allowed Aliens to control the government. Gintoki ,one of the last surviving samurai, lives in a small flat above a bar and works an "odd jobs" business. He soon meets Shinpachi and Kagura who become his new family and whether he wants to or not, he's stuck with them.

My opinion- when I first started watching this anime I had know idea what I was getting myself into. It is the FUNNIEST anime you will ever watch, there are very few episodes over all that won't have you falling out of your seat. But befor you start watching there are things you should know...
1. There is ABSOLUTELY NO PLOT, it literally goes episode by episode without any direction whatsoever. There are some episodes that are part one and part two and have some form of plot, but those are very rare, usually only at the beginning and end of seasons.
2. It is only in eng sub, the reasoning is because there are so many Japanese references that if it were translated into English or any other language, it wouldn't make any sense. So don't bother waiting for dub because there probably won't be any.
3. One of the things that makes this anime so popular is that it makes fun of other animes. So if you haven't seen a variety of other animes you won't get the true beauty of this anime. Here's a list of some of the animes Gintama makes a parody of; Dragon ball, Naruto, Bleach, One piece, Black butler, sports anime in general, and robo anime in general.
4. The final thing I wanted to mention was the PG-R rating I gave. The reason for this is because of how the anime was set up. The animation is very childish, it looks more on the One Piece side than one of the more detailed animes out there, not that it's bad or anything. As for the R rating, this anime has a crude sense of humor, nudity, and a lot of "bad" words. The nudity and cussing are both beeped and pixelated out but there is still a lot of hinting going on. 

Over all Gintama is one of the best animes I have watched, it's only fault is that for such a funny anime it can dish out the feels just as well as any other anime.(the feels):'(

*(For those of you who don't know what the Edo period is, it's the age of the samurai. Kind of like the mid-evil period of England, but in Japan)
