The Love Of My Life

Chapter 2

Tony's POV

  A few days have passed, and now it's time to make the 4-hour drive to see our grandbabies, who we have missed so very much. We planned this trip because we knew we wouldn't have time to see them as much once the campaign trail started. 

*alarms go off* 

 I reached over and picked up my phone, which read 7:00 am. I placed my phone back on the nightstand and rubbed my wife's head, which was peacefully on my chest. " Honey, it's ti-" I started to say "I'm already up," Maya said. " How did you sleep?" I asked, running my hands up and down her back and across her butt. " I slept good, babe, how about you?" she asked, rubbing my chest. " I slept pretty well, we should probably start getting ready to leave," I said, kissing her forehead, and we both got up. We made the bed and started getting ready for the road, conversing as we moved around the room; we both put on something comfortable for the drive. 

" Are you sure you packed everything?" I asked her, putting the last of our bags by the garage door, "yes babe, I'm very sure," she said, laughing as she put water bottles in the cooler bag. "okay then, I'm going to load up the car" I started picking up the bags " do you need help?" she asked standing there with the cooler bag on her shoulder and her hands on her hips. "what bags have you ever picked up when you're with me, besides your purse?" I asked her, picking up the last bag off the ground.  I load up the car, and we both get in, Maya has her pillow and blanket ready, " So I guess you weren't planning on driving, huh? " I said, laughing, pulling out of the driveway, "oh, if you need me to drive, I will," she said, laughing and pulling the cover over her lap. 

We are about 45 mins into the drive, and I look over at my wife, who is reading her book "You want to stop for something to eat?" . " No, I'm good for now. Let's get up the road some" she says placing her book down on her lap, grabbing my hand and falling asleep. She always has to touch some part of me to fall asleep, and I find it so cute.  I continued to drive, tuning everything out except the radio. " And tomorrow will come, and girl, I can't wait, it's our anniversary," I sang, looking at my wife peacefully sleeping.  

We now only have an hour left In our drive, and Maya wakes up. " well, hello. Good morning," I say, laughing. " Whatever, I didn't sleep that long," she says, folding up the blanket and placing it in the back seat. "Honey, we have an hour left in our drive... you slept the whole way, basically," I said. " oh my goodness?? It doesn't feel like I slept long at all," she says, looking at me and grabbing my hand again. " Are you hungry now?" I asked her, "Ouu, yes, Let's get something to eat," she said, smiling from ear to ear. I get off on the next exit "What do you want?" I say as I pull into the parking lot, which has a lot of choices. "Baby, you know I'm indecisive, I can't pick," she says, looking out the window. "Umm, how about In-and-Out?" I asked, "That's fine with me," she responded. 

We got in the drive-thru to order. "What do you want, honey?" I asked. Umm, I guess what I normally get," she said in response as she let her sit back a little to rest. "Okay," I responded. I ordered our food and pulled up to the window "Your total is 17.25," the lady said at the window, I handed her my card "Here you go," I said, handing her my card with a smile. I looked back at my wife and see her responding to a few emails, "you're gorgeous" I say "Thank you baby" she responds blushing. I turn my focus back to the window " you are so fine" the lady says handing me back my card "uh oh" I said at a whisper, I take my card back nodding my head. "are you married" she asked "I am-" I was cut off, " He's married, 26 years to be exact" Maya says now sitting up, " Oh my goodness, I didn't see you" the lady says now embarrassed "I bet" Maya says now staring the lady down. "here go your food, you guys have a great day" she said handing us our food and closing the window. I handed the bags to Maya and put the drinks in the cup holder, " you shouldn't have an attitude babe" I say as I look at Maya. " I don't." After being married to her for this long, I know when she has an attitude, and a bad one at that. " Okay," was all I said, trying not to push it further. 

After driving for a while, Maya gets a FaceTime. " GRAMMA," Amara and Leela say over the phone "Hi babies," she said smiling. "When are you and Pop-pop getting here?" Leela asked. "We are twenty minutes away," I said, "I can't wait for you to get here," Amara said as both she and Leela giggled. "we are going to call you when we get outside, okay?" Maya says to the girls, "Okay, gramma, see you in a little bit,"  Leela says as she hangs up. She puts her phone down and sighs "What's wrong?" I asked, looking at her quickly, then placed my eyes back on the road. "Nothing," she says plainly. " babe, if you-" I was starting to say before Maya cut me off and said, " I said nothing is wrong, Tony, please stop asking." I looked at her, then put both hands on the wheel and focused back on my driving. "Ok" was all I got Out. 

Meena"s POV

" Mommyyy.. gramma and Pop-pop said they would be here 3 hours ago," Leela says, coming up to me and sitting on my lap, I laughed. " you just got off the phone with them five minutes ago, Leela," I said kissing her on the head "It feels like hours," she said throwing her head back being dramatic. "Leela," I said, laughing, picking her head up. How about you and Amara go color, then by the time you guys get done, they will be here?" I said, "Okay," Leela said, and she and Amara ran off to the playroom.

" When are your parents getting here?" Nik asked as I walked into our bedroom "You starting to sound like the girls," I said I said laughing. "hey, your dad and I have some football to watch," he said. "So, are you cooking or your mom?" he asked as I sat next to him on the bed, "My mom, why?" I replied, "No offense, babe, but I love your mom's cooking." he said, "Oh really," I said, laughing, hitting him with a pillow. 

*doorbell rings* 

" GRAMMMMAAA!" I hear the girls yell, "I guess that's them," Nik said, laughing. I get up and go to the front door. The girls know not to open the door if Nik or myself aren't around, so they're just standing there jumping with excitement. "Hey, Mom," I said, hugging her. "Hey baby," she quickly said and ran right past me to the girls. "Oh, that's how we are feeling now, I said, looking at her hug the girls, I turned my attention back to the door, "hey, Dad," I said, giving him a hug, "how are you?" I asked, " I'm doing well, sweetheart, how are you?" he said, "I'm great," I responded. " Oh, and by the way, your mom has an attitude with me because this lady called me fine," he said, then walked over to Nik. All I could do was laugh; my mom was very possessive of my dad. 

I closed the door. " Wassup pop-pop," Nik said, hugging my dad, "Hey, Gramma," he said, also hugging my mom." so what's the plan for today?" my mom asked. " Well, we were going to take the girls mini golfing today, we can still do that for a few hours, then we can grab something to eat," Nik said we all agreed and got into the cars.

It's currently November, which means it's finals for us college students, so bear with me.
