As rehearsals began in earnest with everyone reading their lines aloud for the first time, Hinata struggled to keep up with the rapid-fire dialogue of Hamilton's world. Kageyama stood beside him, muttering under his breath about how ridiculous this whole situation was while trying to remember his own lines.
"Just focus on your part!" Hinata urged as he flipped through pages frantically.
"Why do I have to focus when you're messing up?" Kageyama shot back.
Meanwhile, Hiroto and Hitori exchanged glances from across the room; Hitori shook his head at his brother's antics while Hiroto practiced his lines dramatically. After an hour of chaotic rehearsals filled with laughter and mispronounced lines, Takeda clapped his hands together to get everyone's attention once more.
"Great work today! We'll pick up where we left off tomorrow." He smiled encouragingly at each member before they began to disperse. As they gathered their belongings and prepared to leave for home, Ennoshita turned to Hinata and Kageyama. "You guys did well today! It's just practice; you'll get better."
Hinata nodded slowly but couldn't shake off the feeling of embarrassment that lingered from earlier. "Thanks... I guess." Kageyama sighed heavily as they walked out together. "We can't let anyone know about this," he insisted firmly.
"Right!" Hinata agreed quickly. "No one can find out we're doing this play!"
The next day brought a welcome return to volleyball practice after school. However, as they warmed up on the court, their teammates noticed something was off about Hinata and Kageyama; their usual energy seemed subdued.
"Hey! What's wrong with you two?" Asahi asked during a water break.
Kageyama shot him a glare but didn't respond.
Hinata shrugged nonchalantly but felt a knot in his stomach as he avoided eye contact with Asahi and Daichi.
As practice continued, Hinata struggled to concentrate on drills while thoughts of rehearsals invaded his mind—lines he needed to memorize and characters he had yet to embody swirled around him like an unending storm. After practice concluded and they began cleaning up, Kageyama noticed Tsukishima watching them closely from across the gym floor.
"They're definitely hiding something," Tsukishima muttered under his breath to Yamaguchi.
"Should we ask them?" Yamaguchi suggested hesitantly.
"No way," Kageyama interjected sharply as he grabbed a volleyball bag and slung it over his shoulder. "Let's just get out of here."
With that final remark hanging heavily in the air, Hinata and Kageyama left the gym together without answering any questions from their concerned teammates—leaving behind an unsettling curiosity among their friends that would linger long after they had gone home for the evening.
