The week following the joint rehearsal was a whirlwind of activity for Hinata and Kageyama. Determined to catch up on their volleyball skills, they spent every spare moment practicing, their bodies moving mechanically through drills long after their teammates had gone home. On Friday afternoon, as the sun dipped low on the horizon, casting long shadows across the gym floor, Daichi approached the exhausted duo.
"Hinata, Kageyama, a word?" he called, his tone brooking no argument.
The pair exchanged nervous glances before trudging over to where the third-years stood waiting. Suga's brow furrowed with concern. "We're worried about you two. You've been off all week. Is everything okay?" Hinata opened his mouth, the truth on the tip of his tongue, but Kageyama subtly shook his head.
"We're fine," Kageyama insisted, his voice gruff. "Just... working on some new techniques."
Asahi looked unconvinced. "You know you can talk to us if something's wrong, right?"Hinata nodded vigorously, shame gnawing at his insides. "Of course! But really, everything's great!" As they walked away, Tanaka whispered to Nishinoya, "They're definitely hiding something."
The following week, as the Karasuno drama club members arrived at the community center for rehearsal, they were greeted by a cacophony of noise.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Bokuto's booming voice echoed through the room. "The star has arrived!"
Kuroo sauntered in behind him, a Cheshire cat grin on his face. "Don't you mean stars, plural?" Lev trailed after them, his eyes wide with wonder. "Wow! This place is huge! Do we get to wear costumes?" Hinata's face lit up at the sight of his friends. "Bokuto-san! Kuroo-san! Lev! You guys really joined!"
Kageyama pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering, "This is going to be a disaster."
Oikawa and Tendo exchanged amused glances from across the room.
"Well, well," Oikawa purred. "Looks like our little production just got a lot more... interesting."
Tendo nodded, his smile enigmatic. "The more, the merrier, wouldn't you say?"
As Yunia called everyone to order, the newcomers were quickly assigned their roles. Bokuto's face fell as he learned he'd be playing Hercules Mulligan. "But... but I wanted to be Burr!" he whined, casting a longing look at Kageyama. Kuroo patted his friend's back consolingly. "Come on, Bo. Mulligan's cool too. You get to be a spy!"
"A spy?" Bokuto perked up slightly. "Well, I guess that's pretty awesome..."
