CHAPTER ONE EPISODE ONE PT1

Rick and his close friend Shane, both police officers for the King County Sheriff's Department, are both preparing an ambush with other fellow officers for three suspects in a high-speed chase. The officers were only aware of two suspects in the vehicle and had no idea there was a third. After some joking about making it onto one of those police shows, the suspects came towards Rick and Shane's units, hitting their spike strip and flying out of control, crashing off into a field on the side of the road.

After slowly approaching the wrecked vehicle, two of the suspects came out and opened fire on the officers, resulting in a small shootout between the two sides. Rick was shot during the shootout, but his bulletproof vest saved him, only slightly injuring him. After a moment between Rick and his friend, the third suspect came out and shot Rick, fatally wounding him. The officers quickly took out the former, and Shane rushed to Rick to help him. It was too late, and Rick's injuries would sadly put him into a coma.

Shane would visit Rick a few times, along with Rick's family, but Rick didn't recover during their visits.

The zombie apocalypse had begun and had been going on for a few weeks now, and Rick woke up from his coma in his hospital room, completely oblivious to the danger around him. His room was still untouched, and Rick soon discovered that someone had blocked his room with a hospital bed. He finally realised something terrible was going down when he saw the hospital in ruins outside his room. Still weak, he slowly wandered to the end of the hallway, noticing a chain-locked door with moaning noises and hands behind it. These had to be the undead. Rick, being the intelligent guy he was, left the door alone and tried to find a way out of the hospital.

After seeing a massive pile of bagged dead bodies at an abandoned military checkpoint outside of the hospital, Rick rushed to his house to see if his family was alive. To his disappointment, they weren't there, but he knew they were alive when this all started, as their photos and other family stuff were gone. No random thief would take that stuff.

He took a moment outside after crying, seeing one of the undead on the street and thinking he was an ordinary man. A kid came up behind Rick, knocking him out with a shovel as he had mistaken him for one of the undead. Rick called out his son's name to the kid before the latter's father showed up, pointing a gun at a concussed Rick. He demanded to know what Rick's wound was, but Rick passed out, and the two had to carry him inside a nearby house to help him.

Rick woke up a while later, having been patched up by the man and his son. He was tied to a bed for safety, and again, the father asked Rick what his wound was, threatening to hurt him if he tried anything. Rick complied and told him that he was shot, but the man wanted to know more. He asked Rick if he had been bitten or scratched, to which the latter said no, confused as to why he was asked this. Rick was still unaware of what was going on in the world. The man explained to Rick about the undead and how the fever kills you when you're bitten by one. The man eventually decided to free Rick from his restraints. Rick spoke more about himself and how he woke up in the hospital while they ate. After this, Rick learned more about the undead, being told that you turn into one after you die of the fever.
