Shane understood that the group didn't like Rick's idea, and despite Shane supporting Rick's plan to acquire extra guns, Shane ultimately decided to turn down Rick's suggestion.

[M] Shane: Rick, man, as much as I support your plan, I have to take everyone else's side here. If Dale says we need extra bodies, I'm gonna trust him. He usually makes good calls. We can find more guns another time.

Rick was disappointed, but he understood his best friend's reasons.

[M] Rick: I just hope that kid and his father are alright. I understand you not wanting to put the group in danger especially after what happened, and I'll respect that decision.

Lori smiled after hearing this. Despite her anger at Shane, she was glad that the two made a rational decision.

Merle: Alright, so if we're staying here, then we need people on watch. After running into that undead son of a bitch earlier, I don't doubt there are more hungry guests coming our way. You weren't exactly discreet with that sports car, Glenn.

[M] Shane: Merle is right. You rang the dinner bell, Glenn, and it's gonna get worse.

[M] Rick: I'll keep a lookout so there's no surprises. I think it's best that no one leaves hearing range.

Merle: Agreed. I'll be on the lookout, too.

[M] Shane: Alright. Then it's settled. Anyway, let's get back to our daily routine, yeah? Don't feel like you can't relax, Rick. God knows you earned your day off. Merle will have you covered. The guy can be an asshole, but he's still a big help. (To Merle) And yes, I know you heard me.

Everyone went back to their daily business, Merle, Daryl and Rick all being on high alert for walkers. Rick, however, still had opportunities to relax and get to know everyone. Shane took Carl to the lake for a while to have fun with him and help him catch frogs. Carol, Amy, Jacqui and Andrea were also at the lake along with Ed. The ladies were washing clothes while Ed was just watching them and smoking like a jackass.

Lori came to the lake to ruin Shane's bonding with Carl since she was still mad at him for saying Rick had died, knowing that Shane didn't give a shit if Rick was gone. Shane was left alone at the lake, feeling embarrassed and annoyed. Seeing that Ed was harassing the ladies and then eventually started hitting his wife Carol, Shane quickly rushed over to put Ed down, taking out all his anger on the abusive husband to teach him a lesson to never put his hands on anyone ever again. He almost beat Ed to death, which left Carol in tears despite the fact that he deserved it for hitting her. Carol was loving despite how abusive Ed was to her.

Shane stormed off after beating him up and returned to the camp. He forgot about the rule of staying within hearing range of everyone, but he was too angry to keep watch over the ladies
