Damien's pov
_________________________________________The night air is crisp, the Eiffel Tower looming above us like a sentinel of love and romance. But as I stand beside Nova, I feel a sense of unease, a nagging doubt that gnaws at the edges of my mind.
I watch as she gazes up at the tower, her eyes shining with wonder, her lips parted in a soft smile. She turns to me, her face flushed with emotion, her body leaning closer to mine.
And in that moment, I feel a surge of desire, a longing so strong it takes my breath away. I reach out, my hand cupping her cheek, my thumb tracing the contours of her face.
But then, something shifts. A coldness settles over me, a reminder of the reality that lies beneath the surface of this romantic fantasy. I am Damien Blackwood, heir to an empire, bound by duty and obligation.
I pull away, my eyes hardening as I meet Nova's gaze. "Nova," I say, my voice firm and controlled, "don't misunderstand. This... this is about business. Nothing more."
I see the hurt that flashes across her face, the confusion and the pain. But I know that this is for the best, for both of us. Getting involved with her, allowing myself to feel something for her... it would only lead to complications, to trouble that neither of us needs.
Blackwood Industries is my legacy, my responsibility. I cannot afford to let my heart rule my head, to let emotions cloud my judgment. And for Nova... being with me would only bring her pain, would only subject her to the scrutiny and the demands of my family.
I watch as she pulls away, her eyes downcast, her shoulders slumped. I feel a twinge of guilt, a sense of regret that I cannot act on my desires. But I know that this is the right thing to do, the only thing I can do.
As we descend from the tower, I keep my distance, my eyes fixed on the ground. I know that I have hurt her, that I have shattered the dreams she had begun to build. But I also know that this is for the best, that this is the only way forward.
I watch as she retreats to her room, her steps heavy, her shoulders bowed. And as I stand alone in the hallway, I feel a sense of emptiness, a void that I cannot fill.
I know that I have made the right choice, the only choice I could have made. But as I close my eyes and let the exhaustion of the day wash over me, I cannot help but wonder what might have been.
What might have happened if I had allowed myself to feel, to love, to let go of the chains that bind me to my family and my legacy?
But those are questions for another time, for a different life. For now, I must focus on the task at hand, on the responsibilities that await me.
I am Damien Blackwood, and I will not be swayed by the desires of my heart. I will be strong, I will be steadfast, I will be true to myself and to my company. No matter the cost.
The morning sunlight streams in, casting a harsh glare on the papers strewn across my desk. I rub my eyes, trying to clear the fog of sleep that clings to my mind. It's been a restless night, my thoughts plagued by the memory of Nova's hurt expression, the pain in her eyes as I rejected her advances.
I force myself to focus on the work before me, but it's a futile effort. My mind keeps drifting back to the events of last night, to the way Nova leaned in, her lips parted, her eyes shining with hope and desire.
I had pulled away, my voice cold and dismissive. "Nova, don't misunderstand. This... this is about business. Nothing more."
The words echo in my mind, a bitter reminder of the choice I've made. I know that I did what I had to do, that getting involved with Nova would only complicate matters and jeopardize my career. But that doesn't make it any easier to bear.
