Dante POV
The morning light crept through the curtains, the soft glow casting a warm hue over the room. I blinked against the light, my eyes adjusting as I stretched out, a slight groan escaping my lips. My body felt sore from carrying Jasper last night, but it wasn't a bad kind of soreness—it was the kind that came with doing something for someone you cared about. I glanced over at the bed where Jasper had passed out, still lying there, tangled in the sheets, his hair a mess and his face relaxed in sleep.
For a moment, I just watched him, my heart doing that weird fluttering thing again. He looked so peaceful, so unguarded in that state, like the whole world was far away. It made me smile, and I couldn't help but feel a little protective of him, especially after everything that had happened last night.
I let out a quiet sigh, pulling myself out of bed, careful not to disturb Jasper as I made my way to the bathroom. I splashed some cold water on my face, trying to wake up fully. The hangover was creeping in, dull and insistent, but nothing too unbearable. The events from last night—how everything had shifted between me and Jasper—kept replaying in my mind. The kiss, his confession, how easy it felt to be close to him. I had to admit, it was all a little overwhelming.
When I returned to the room, Jasper was still asleep, curled up in the blankets, looking completely out of it. I quietly moved to my suitcase and grabbed some clothes, trying not to wake him, but I could already hear the others stirring outside in the hallway. Calum's voice was faint, but I could make out the cheerful chatter about plans for the day.
I wasn't quite ready to deal with that yet—not when my mind was still tangled in what had happened between me and Jasper. I grabbed my phone to check the time and then paused. I had a message from Vera. She was probably checking on us after last night, making sure everyone was still alive and in one piece.
I tapped the screen and read her message: "You guys good in there? I don't want to hear about any embarrassing hangovers, alright?"
I chuckled softly to myself, shaking my head. She knew exactly how to check in without making it feel like an interrogation. I quickly typed back, "All good, no embarrassing hangovers. Jasper's still out, though. Probably needs another hour of sleep."
Before I could set the phone down, there was a soft rustling from the bed, and I turned to see Jasper stirring. His eyes cracked open, squinting against the light, and I noticed his hair was even messier than usual. It made me grin a little.
"Morning," I said softly, trying not to startle him.
Jasper groaned, his hand reaching up to rub his eyes. "Ugh, what time is it? And why does my head feel like it's been hit by a truck?"
I chuckled, walking over to sit on the edge of the bed. "It's about 10 a.m., and you were pretty drunk last night. But hey, you survived, didn't you?"
He let out a low laugh, but it quickly turned into a wince. "Yeah, but I'm definitely paying for it now. I don't even remember how I got back here."
"You're lucky I was there," I said, nudging him with my elbow. "I had to carry you like a damsel in distress. Remember that?"Jasper blinked at me, looking confused for a second. Then his face flushed a deep red, and he groaned again. "Oh my gods, don't remind me. I can't believe you had to do that. I'm such a mess."
I laughed again, feeling a little lighter now that he was awake and talking. "It wasn't a big deal, don't worry about it." I paused for a moment, watching him as he rubbed his temples, trying to stave off the headache. "Besides, I didn't mind."
Jasper looked up at me then, his eyes a little softer than usual, a small, shy smile tugging at his lips. "Thanks, Dante," he muttered. "Really. You didn't have to do all that."
