Chapter 5: Technological Progress

Odonata: She won't ever agree to anything I put out.

Odonata gave out a groan as she sat exposed in the warm water within a large tub that was in one of the Nests. The entire room was currently having Lifeblood channeled through large vents on the walls. Beside her was Scutter who had embraced her, slowly comforting her as best he could. Eventually Odonata weakly returned the hug.

Sitting across from her were Aphid and the few Soldiers who were all relaxing in the warm water. The Soldiers who had recently tired themselves out from the battle were either napping or washing themselves. Aphid meanwhile was using her magic to levitate a datapad that was reading reports compiled by the Hive.

2 massive Super Soldiers were also present, guarding the entrance to the room. Super Soldiers were much like regular Soldiers only they were bigger and bulkier with a massive horn on their head, similar to Hercules Beetles. They were the bulk of the Hive, acting as massive mobile barriers for enemies.

Aphid: I understand your annoyance Mother, though having her on our side is better than having the other.

She placed the datapad on a distant shelf so the device didn't break in the water.

Aphid: And considering she does have the numerical advantage, she could provide the perfect military while you could focus on developing more technologies that you want or need to develop.

Odonata: Though I can-

She weakly started before Scutter gently began to rub the young Queen's chin.

Scutter: Remember what I said a while ago dear? One mind is not enough to start a technological revolution.

Aphid: Just... show us what to do and let us help you Mother.

Odonata looked away as she used her free hoof to rub the location where a scar was. It had been from the result of the Griffons attacking them at their meeting.

Odonata: I can't just teach you. I had been taught theories, principles, and numerous things since I was a hatchling. It's too complicated to just 'learn' within less time.

Aphid: Is it some kind of world ending secret? Are you worried that someone's going to abandon you afterwards?

Odonata: No and no. I know I am too valuable.

Aphid let out a sigh and deflated as she sank back in the water in a drained manner.

Odonata: Anyways, I should probably head back to work bef-

Scutter: No, no, no! You dear have tired yourself out to the point where you can barely walk.

And with that, he hugged her even tighter, causing Odonata to let out a squeak of disaproval before weakly resisting.

Odonata: Honey I need-

Scutter: You need to relax. Not everything in your life needs to be about progress. Just... stay here with me Odo.

It wasn't long before she eventually gave up and accepted Scutter's affection, the 2 embracing each other. It was then that Odonata fell asleep in their hug. Aphid merely blinked upon noticing her Queen just falling asleep before she simply burst into soft laughter.

Scutter: What are you planning to do now Aphid?

He inquired of the Mutated General as he brushed his mane with a provided brush using his magic.

Aphid: Depending on what Mother is planning now... I have to say that she could do much better than Chrysalis could, despite her age.

Soldier: I'm going to stay here! The food our Hive makes is so delicious!
