chapter 7.
A strange man suddenly comes running towards Aria and grabs her arms yanking them behind her back. She feels like a rag doll being manhandled. She is shocked by this action and looks at Min Woo questioningly. “HWAN!” he yells looking very angry.
“What have you done to His Majesty?” the man named Hwan demands. She tries to struggle out of his grasp but he holds her tighter and takes his arm and wraps it around her neck. She eyes Min Woo again. She doesn’t understand why everyone keeps calling him “Majesty.” It’s not like he is a kind or some high official…impossible! Why would he be roaming around the woods by himself?
Stalking towards them, Min Woo points at Hwan angrily and barks, “As your king, I demand you to let her go!” Aria is shocked to hear “king” in Min Woo’s words. Was the person I was taking care of actually a king?! And to think how she treated him poorly!
“Yes, Your Majesty,” he replies begrudgingly bowing his head and immediately lets go. Aria glares at him as she rubs her bruised arms but is suddenly met by a very handsome face. He had a high nose and plump lips like the color of rosebuds. Half of his long black hair that reaches just below his shoulders is tied back while a short portion of it frames his forehead and the sides of his face. Aria feels her cheeks glowing red and she quickly turns away from him.
Taking her shoulders, Min Woo asks in a concerned voice, “Are you okay?”
“Yes.” She coldly replies shaking his hands off her shoulders and stepping away. He frowns but quickly replaces it with a stone look while clearing his throat. The made that had been standing beside Hwan shakes his head disapprovingly. Aria looks at Min Woo again. She still can’t believe that he could actually be the king of Joseon! This must be what that shaman, Moo San was talking about…her meeting the king.
“What’s going on out there, Myung Wol?” Old Man Shim calls out as he comes out of his room.
“Father!” she exclaims going over towards him. She had been living with this man for so long now that it seems almost second nature to her to call him “father.” She helps him step down from the porch and leads him where Min Woo and rest of his troop stand.
“What’s all this racket that has awoken me from my sleep, my daughter?” he inquires while Aria still held his hands.
The man who had shaken his head Aria disapprovingly suddenly came forth. He looks to be wearing the eunuch uniform which they wore during the Joseon Era. “Watch what you say!” he exclaims frowning at Old Man Shim. “You are in the presents of the king of Joseon!”
“The k-king?” Old Man Shim stammers looking very stunned.
“Yes!” the eunuch replies.
“That’s enough, Nae Si. There is no need to scold them. This man’s daughter saved me when I had slipped and fallen in the creek. They even provided me with shelter and food,” Min Woo explains smiling at Aria and Old Man Shim.
His eyes widening, he bows to the king’s two saviors in appreciation. “How grateful that I am that you saved His Majesty’s life.”
