The world outside had just started to wake up but my mind had been running for hours.

I woke up and leaned back against the headboard. The first ray of sunshine bled through the cracks in the blinds. I rubbed a hand over my face, the stubble on my jaw scratching against my palm.

Another sleepless night.

I told myself I was fine.

Always fine.

It's what I was good at—keeping my head up and carrying on like nothing ever touched me.

But this morning?

This morning, I wasn't so sure.

The phone on the bedside table buzzed its screen lighting up with Raghav's name. I stared at it for a beat too long, debating whether to answer or let it ring.

I sighed, picking up the phone and answering it.

"Good morning, Sunshine." Raghav chirped.

"It's too early for me for your sweetness," I rubbed my face, still exhausted, "subah subah kya kaam hai tuje?" I asked.

"Kyu tuje yaad nahi kar sakta kya main? Dost dost na raha," he sniffled.

Nautanki saala.

"Arree bas bhai. Itni overacting ke paise katne chahiye tere to. Acha tell me itni subah kaise yaad kiya?"

"Bass teri yaad aa rahi thi muje and Disha ko, plus we wanted to invite to our brunch today. It's been too long since we hung out." Raghav said.

"Today?"

"Yes. Today. And don't even think out to bail. Bhai last time tune cancel kiya to tab Disha got upset. Iss baar kiya to teri khair nahi. Her words, not mine." He warned me

"Acha fine. I'll be there." I agreed.

"Chal fir see you at 11. I'll text you the address."

"Hmm" I hung up. I sighed tired, stretched and exited the bed towards the washroom.

It had been ages since I last spent time with Raghav. The last occasion was his wedding, after which life took us in different directions—he got caught up with his family, and I moved out of the city.

Honestly, I miss him. He was my best friend for years, always there for me when life got tough.

He was my only friend.

But I'd never tell him that—he'd let it go straight to his head, and I'd never hear the end of it.

It was only 8 o'clock, so I had plenty of time to go through my emails and make a few calls. After a quick shower, I headed to the kitchen to whip up something to eat and settled down for breakfast.

I then headed to my home office to work for a while. I got so caught up in work that I didn't notice the time.

It was 10:30.

Shit.

I changed my clothes and headed out to Raghav's place. As I was driving I was called by the man of the hour. I answered and his voice came through the speakers of the car.

"Where are you? Please don't tell me you're still sitting on your ass–"

"I am sitting on my ass and I'm driving, tere ghar pohoch jaungi in about 10-15 minutes," I chuckled.

"Thank god. Nahi to tere saath saath meri khair nahi thi," I could people chattering on the other side.

"Are there others?" I asked him.

"Haa. My in-laws are here." he briefed, "Acha tu pohoch, we are waiting."

He disconnected the call.

More people.

Lovely.
