One evening, after dinner, her youngest son, David, excitedly told her about his dream of becoming a professional soccer player. His eyes sparkled as he spoke of his training and the sacrifices he was willing to make to reach his goal. Valeria listened in silence, her heart swelling with pride and nostalgia. In her son, she saw the same spark of determination she once had in her youth.

Valeria’s heart filled with emotion, but at the same time, she felt a knot in her stomach. "Why didn’t I do that?" she thought. She had made decisions that led her to put her dreams on hold, but now her son was ready to follow his. Valeria wondered if, as a mother, she should encourage him to pursue his dreams, even if the path was full of obstacles. The answer seemed clear, but at the same time, doubt crept in. How could she advise David to fight for his dreams when she had abandoned hers?

At that moment, her daughter, Sofia, who had been listening quietly, asked her, "Mom, what did you want to be when you were young?"

The question caught her off guard. Valeria looked at her daughter and, for the first time in years, realized she had never shared her true dreams with anyone. "I wanted to be an architect," she answered softly. "I wanted to design buildings that could change the world."

Sofia looked at her, surprised. "And why didn’t you do it?"

Valeria paused. A rush of emotions flooded her. "Because my life changed," she said, not knowing how to explain the complexity of her sacrifices. She didn’t want her children to feel guilty about her choices, but the words didn’t come out the way she had hoped.
