"You started this, why try and run now?" I reach down, and grab the poor fool by his messy brown hair. Lifting his busted and swollen face up to look at me, "What's the matter? I thought I was an easy mark?"
I laugh darkly and slam his face back down into the gravel of the alleyway. I kick out swiftly, nailing the man once more in his chest. "Do not let me catch you or your pathetic lot hunting in this city again." I spit at his face then turn making my way back out to the busy streets.
I miss the sky the most when the sun sets, here in the big and bright city, you can't see the stars. I sigh deeply, wiping a bit of blood from my busted lip. The ones who walke pass me, quickly look away hoping to avoid catching my attention. I can't blame them for that at the moment, my clothes are dirty and shredded in a few places. Dirt is in my messy hair and covering different exposed parts of my body.
I feel my phone buzzing away in my pocket again, no doubt it's about the meeting I am supposed to be attending now. I groan not wanting to deal with this but when my phone doesn't stop I give up. Pulling it out and tapping the screen I hear the pleading voice of my assistant.
"Please tell me you are close Miss Riva? I do not know how much longer I keep these gentlemen entertained."
"Yeah I am but I need a bit more time. Send a few girls in and comp them a bottle." I hang up on Marge and quickly dial my older brother's number.
"What happened now sis?" His deep tone hits my ears before even hearing a ring.
"What makes you think something happened?" I question in disbelief.
"Do I need to give examples?" I can picture the skeptical look and raised eyebrow Vincent must have right now.
"Whatever, but yeah Billy and his miscreants just tried to abduct me. See to their disposal if they get spotted again." I say coldly, walking into a clothing shop.
"Where are you now sis? I thought you were meeting Mr. Moretti and his lot at the tavern?"
"I will be there after. I'm at Jules currently. Gotta change outfits, send Clayton to pick me up." I hang up before my brother can say another word.
I shift through a bunch of different dresses for settling on a shimmering, V neck black dress. It seems a perfect fit to this long day. I change swiftly and do my best to sort out of my red hair. Jules herself comes over and helps me get futher situated. She knows better then to ask any questions, her business is one of many my father controls.
"Mrs. O'Clery, I believe your ride is out front for you." Jules bows alittle and steps out of my way.
"You can trash my old clothes. Thanks for the dress Jules. Have a lovely night." I smirk alittle and walk out the front doors, Clayton holding the passenger door opened.
He nods his head and closes the door as I sit down. Clay starts driving towards the meeting place.
"Your brother said you ran into trouble." Clay raises an eyebrow curiously but doesn't look at me directly.
"No more then usual I suppose." I shrug my shoulders indifferently, "They didn't put up much of a fight."
"You say that, but there is a cut on your lip." He says with heavy annoyance.
"That was my own doing. You think I'd let creeps like that get a hit on me?" I cross my arms and stare down Clayton.
"Not at all I suppose, but still your father will not be happy. Where were the guards?" Clay's grip tightens on the steering wheel.
"I merely wanted to walk from the office. There didn't seem to be a need for them to follow me." I sigh knowing what will happen when father does find out, "I will explain it to him myself."
"This isn't the countryside Riva. It is much different here in the city."
"You say that like I had a choice in coming here." I spit out bitterly, angry at his implication, "I much rather be back home and not here."
"Sorry Riva, I spoke out of place." He gazes at me gently before turning his eyes back to the road.
"What are my brothers up to right now anyway?" I grumble, "Aren't they supposed to handle family buisness?"
"Vincent is heading to the house to meet up with Mr. O'Clery to discuss the new lawyers in the company. Conner and Murphy are at the ring handling other business."
"Makes sense those two fools be goofing off while the rest of us are working." I roll my eyes, trying to stifle a chuckle about the twins.
"We are here Riva, I will be close if you need me." I give him a glare as I step out of the car, "Glare all you want, I won't leave you on your own with Morettis." Despite Clayton being my family's right hand, he can be a right pain in my as sometimes.
I walk in to my father's pub and make my way to the vip sections. There in the one reserved for the family sits Mr. Moretti and his two sons. They run the south end of the city and their business has become stagnant.
As soon as Marge sees me, she starts rushing over. "Thank goodness." She hugs me hurriedly and rushes me towards the waiting men.
I will have words with my assistant later about how to mange such clients in the future. For she has no idea about the family business, my father made sure to keep everything separate.
"Ah, finally." Mr. Arterian Moretti stands and stretches a hand out towards me, "It is nice to finally meet the reclusive O'Clery Heiress." As he smiles his mustache turns upwards, looking like his nose may suck it up.
I keep my expression blank regardless, but there is a spike of revulsion as the finely dressed man kisses the back of my hand. I force a light smile, and take a seat across from the three. Discreetly wiping my hand off on my dress.
"These are my sons." He motions to them both, "Travis Moretti is my eldest." The man on his left stands and bows slightly.
His long, brown hair trails forward over muscular shoulders. All three men share nearly identical features, their hair styles and ages are the only differences. They are all well built for a taller men, though it is no surprise. Most families that work in the shadows are all raised a certain way. Children born to such families receive a different type of education then the rest of the populace as well.
"Miss O'Clery. Thank you for meeting us tonight." Travis smiles as he looks down at me, his earthy brown eyes lingering after he sits back down.
"This is my youngest, Scott Moretti." The younger man stands and bows like his brother before him.
Scott has much shorter hair, tapering off around his jaw line.
"Enough with the pleasantries Mr. Moretti. How can I help you this evening?" I get straight to the point, wanting to go home as soon as possible.
"Well we were hoping to enter a contract with your lawfirm. We can no longer compete but do not wish to sell either."
"You failed to keep your business and your personal life seprate. In your case both sides of the coin need eachither to function now." I tap the table between us with exhaustion, "The only way the for us to even consider your proposal will be if you can seprate such things. You need two coins instead of one."
"That is were I need help Miss O'Clery." Mr. Moretti looks at me nearly pleading."
"I don't think that is something I am qualified to assist you on. You should hire someone more specialized in sorting affairs." I roll my eyes, not hiding my attitude now.
"Can you recommend me someone then?"
"I will look into it and have my contact reach out to you, in the mean time start separating your business. Do not use them to finance on another any longer." I stand from the table going, "Once you achieve that reach back out to Vincent."
