I have been roaming these lands for countless years, hoping to find some trace of familiarity anywhere. It's nearing the 337th anniversary since I arrived to this world and it has become increasingly harder to remember my life before this.
The world I came from feels like a mere dream now. It took me along time to accept that here and now is my reality. Luckily I have come across a few players who also mysteriously traveled here. Regrettably, they all played mortal based roles. With the flow of time, they aged and died over in this new world.
The last memories I have of my previous life are of playing a DMMO-RPG, Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, that I helped develop in Japan called YGGDRASIL. It was super popular and I encountered many players back then too.
I was online the last day the servers where due to be shutdown, 13 long years I played and even managed to game with a good guilds too. I may not be able to recall much but I know those moments must have been precious to still be with me.
After the server shut down though instead of being logged off, I woke to find myself as the character I spent years building. Sumari Sukojo, a demonic sorcerer queen. As a developer and a solo player I also created a little floating paradise of sorts to pair with Sumari. I was so strong that I played as a random boss encounter yet no one ever came close to taking my Palace of Nightmares.
There was one guild that came incredibly close though and they ended up being the only guild I ever teamed up with repeatedly. They were a powerful team that was comprised of equally powerful players, 41 to be exact. Their tomb was amazing but my palace is still way better.
The night the server was supposed to shut down, I was roaming around the map exploring my favorite places again. Honestly I was heading to visit that old guild that enjoyed my company and I their's.
I had a few select friends there but most of the members never even met me. Most of them quit the game and left Momonga there alone in Nazarick however they had plenty of NPCs too.
I visited him alot during my sleepless nights, at least I have my memories of the time I spent with him.
Arriving at the gates of my destination pulls me from my thoughts of long lost friends.
My Sanctuary though difts above me, invisible in the clouds. I chuckle to myself knowing the caretakers are still not a fan of me traveling by foot. I don't let the majority of my NPCs leave the island either, for I fear of the damage they could cause.
They are ment to fight and kill anything that steps foot in my sanctuary. I didn't see much need to overly fine tune personalities and such. I purely needed them strong to defend the primary administrative control room. Only my top 5 NPCs got such attention, it seemed fitting as their roles were tied to mine.
I roll my eyes wishing I did more with the background workers knowing what I know now. They all have unquestionable loyalty towards me but their personalities are wildly unpredictable to me. Thankfully after all this time it is no longer much of a worry.
I did try to activate the admin panel but it doesn't have the same abilities as it had back in the game. Most of the functions cease to work at all leaving only practical uses to shift and control the island as a whole.
The hussle and bussle around me soon pulls me from my thoughts, people seem to be lively today. E-Rantel is still relatively the same at least, I think it has been about 12 years since I visited last. I walk through the gates and head for the local adventure tavern. I am still registered as an adventurer even if I'm just a silver plate.
I don't know why I have waited so long to come back this way, just walking the world in aimless loops are becoming too dull. Though I wonder if anyone will recognize me, it has been along time since I was last there. As I near the front door of the Adventures Guild, I feel a familiar presence for the first time in centuries causing my skin to stand on end.
Excitement builds and I decide to lead my old friend on a chase. Taking in his appareance and how well he is trying to hide, I am gonna guess he is undercover. To his left appears to be one of the NPCs that's usually lined up in the hall, not sure which maid she is for sure however.
Holding back a snicker, I tip toe up and give him a little poke from my knife. Knowing he will take slight damage and notice for sure, no doubt he will pursue me. Turning I sprint, feeling his stunned gaze at my cloaked backside. It doesn't take me long to get beyond the gate, I dart along the treeline and watch.
His maid already running the trail I left, sadly for her it leads away from me. I snicker again just as I feel hands on my shoulders, I drop down and sprint forward. My dear friend hot on my trail as we get further from E-Rantel.
"*Hey Gin, bring the Sanctuary to the resting location in the Tob forest.*"
"*My Lady, do I detect excitement?*"
"*I have found a Guild Master.*"
"*Understood my Lady. I will send Karas to wait for you.*" Gin chuckles knowing this will only increase my speed.
"*Thanks, also raise protection level to maximum. I am unsure how these players will react, no visitors are welcomed in the Sanctuary.*"
"*As is always my Lady.*"
Turning my attention back to the elder mage, he is hot on my heels. It seems he was joined by a few more of his servants, the lot of them look confused as to how they haven't caught me yet. I giggle lightly, nearly to the end of the run, already sensing Karas waiting eagerly for me. He is my favorite NPC and I did put alot of work into the Wolf-Demon Lord.
A virtual partner turned real now.
Karas stands unconcerned in the clearing, his demeanor glowing at the sight of me. He stands at 7 feet, his long black hair dancing in the wind around his body, pointed ears erect and focused.
He has broad shoulders and very well defined muscles, his features modeled after an anime I use to be in love with. Karas isn't hiding his power in the slightest with his arms stretched out for me.
I haven't seen him in years, only ever communicating with telepathy. I can not contain myself and leap towards him eagerly, forgetting everything else for a moment.
His arms wrapping me up into a tight hug, my 5 foot self tiny compared to him. I can feel my old friend frozen in place, his servants standing around him protectively.
"My, my, Lady Sumari, when Gin said you found a Guild Leader I wasn't expecting this kind of turn out." His aura is pouring out defensively and his demeanor daring someone to be bold.
When no one speaks, I tug on the sleeve of his robe. Then point to Momonga, the mage standing center. I always let Karas deal with the initial interactions for non human characters. If they fell too far in to themselves, he would have to kill them cause I wouldn't be able too.
To play a Goddess of Death isn't as fun in this world. Karas takes a deep breathe and adjust his hold on me as he readies to speak.
"So you are the Guild Leader, the ones standing protectively are the NPCs I take it. Do tell me your name mage."
"You know alot, but I want to speak with the girl there. She gave me a rather intense introduction." His voice doesn't sound like the Momonga I knew, but his attitude seems the same.
"If you clear the questions then I will most certainly step back and allow Lady Sumari to do what she does." Karas tone is light even though he is being deadly serious.
"Clear the questions?" Momonga, waves his subordinates aside, stepping closer to us.
I feel his red eyes gazing on me, my darken wing flicks out reflexively hiding me from his veiw. I feel Karas tighten his hold on me, I hate killing players but I can't leave them to run rampant either.
"To see how much reason remains within you." Karas states bluntly.
"You know how we came to be here?" Momonga asks hastily.
"Tell me your name mage and the guild you led." Karas states blankly, nothing more will be shared now.
"Momonga of Ains Ooal Gown." My old friend states his eyes still drifting between Karas and myself.
"How many years has passed since you found yourself here?" I tense curiously, there is no way he could've been here for too long.
"2 maybe 3 years now."
"Have you killed needlessly?" Karas continues swiftly, as I listen intently.
"Not to my knowledge."
"Have you helped others?" Karas has no hesitation as he continues.
"Yes, I have helped many." Momo states calmly.
"Are you happy?"
"I am content with my situation if that counts.." He doesn't sound convinced himself, but I can't really blame him. I too was utterly confused for a long time.
"What is your current goal?" Karas hold shifts again and I can feel him getting ready for a worse case situation.
"To create my own kingdo-"
"Well this is interesting, your first lie. What is your true goal, don't be shy Momonga." Karas chuckles darkly, his ominous aura threatening to explode.
There is a moments pause before my old friend continues, "I want to create a world my comrades would be proud of. A place where we can live together in peace surrounded with the beauty this world has."
"My Lady, he passes and he seems to have control of the NPCs despite their desire to kill us. I don't think I need to interfere." Karas chuckles softly as he sets me down, "Sorry about all the trouble. Sumari doesn't like to leave fallen players to roam but she can't ever bring herself to end them."
"So if I failed the test?" Momonga ask curiously.
"We were gonna have to kill you and all those that serve you." Karas snaps his fingers, the Sanctuary rippling into view just before Karas's army steps into the light.
"When did..." Momo goes to ask.
"Worry for not, all is well." With another snap of his fingers, all 80 dragoniod soldiers stretch their wings and return the the floating isle above.
I straighten myself out, and fluff my black feathered wings a bit, "Alright Karas I got it from here." He steps to my side, snaking a hand around my waist.
"I know you." Momonga states getting a clear look of me now.
"Of course you do, I am Sumari Sukojo. I was the solo admin that would visit you on occasion." As the recognition ripples over him, Momonga rushes forwards.
Ignoring the complaints, angry snarls and growls from his companions, he sweeps me off my feet and brings me in to a hug. I feel so many emotions running wild from him, I chuckle and hug him back. I am sure this whole ordeal has taken a toll on my friend.
I know when I first woke up here if it wasn't for Karas and his settings I would've gone insane.
"Sumari now that you found a non human player, may I join you going forward?" Karas looks at me then to the others around us.
Momonga sets me down hastily, "We should go to my tomb to speak more." He turns and before us a purple shadow gate opens, the maids passing through first. "This way please Sumari. It will take us to the conference room."
I smile lightly and take Momo's hand as he walks us through the gate, Karas close behind me.
Ainz pov:
It is her, out of everyone I thought and hope to run into she never once crossed my mind. How could I have forgotten the reaper of war, someone who aided us many times.
I watch as Sumari gracefully sweeps across the floor, her black hair flowing behind, looking like trails of stardust in a night sky.
I wonder how long she has been here, how much does she know.
