Chapter one
Ella Summer

Wednesday, July 17th 2024

I have a mission to find this one peculiar ghost. He is fast and rude; he never wants anyone in this house but me. I wonder why? I want to save him.

I heard an object moving and it sounded like it shattered. I ran to see who it was, and it was him, the one I'm supposed to kill. His eyes were alive, and I hugged him. He hugged me back, and we kissed.

Monday, October 31, 2013

It was around 7:00 pm, and I was at home. My first mission was to kill a Spirit. I have killed multiple spirits before when it wasn’t my job, and I am good at it.

"Rookie!" yelled Josh. I turned to face him.

"Remember, our mission is to kill a bad spirit," he said.

The only thing I did was nod.

I hid behind the wall, then pulled out my good luck gun. My mom used this when she was little, and now it was my turn.

One of the spirits started to cry and was yelling for her husband, wanting to see him. So, I shot her.

She cried in pain. I don't like seeing any ghosts hurt, but I have to kill them.

Some fight to live, and some resist living. I'm sorry for them all, but it has to be done.

I sighed in relief that the torture is over for them, and myself.

As time passes by, it is now Wednesday, February 21, 2014.

I wasn't new to the job when my boss called me while I was in bed. I picked up on the third ring, and he sounded furious.

I sat up and said, "What's up?"

"Ella, I need you to go to this house and move there for a while. I want you to investigate the house," said Josh.

"Do you want me to move and not come back to my own house that I am in right now?" I asked.

"Just until that thing is out," he said in a weary voice.

I sighed and moved my hand up to my face, rubbing it.

"Okay, fine. When do I have to go?" I asked.

"Tomorrow, you will need to pack," he said.

After we hung up, I called my best friend, Maggie Winchester. She picked up on the first ring.

"Hello?" she said in a soft voice, yawning.

"Hey Meg, are you free to hang out tomorrow before I leave?" I asked her.

"Leave? What do you mean by that?" she asked.

I didn't want to tell her the whole thing; I didn't want to scare her.

I was silent for a moment, but then I heard a male voice.

"Who was that? I ask”.

"Um, nobody," she said, "and I know there's somebody."

"Hmm, I know you have someone with you," I said.

She sighed, "Fine, I'll tell you since I can't make you change your question. Do you know this popular guy? Well, his name is Liam," Wayne Meggie say’s”.

I was shocked; my eyes widened. "No way, you are so lucky," I said.

She giggled. Liam whispered something in her ear, and she giggled about it.

"Hey, can I call you later? We can definitely hang out tomorrow, though. Let me know what time," she asked.

"Okay," I said.

We both hung up. I sighed and laid back down. I looked up at the ceiling and thought about what my boss was saying earlier.

There is something in the house that I need to investigate; I don't know why I have this bad feeling.

I closed my eyes to block my inner thoughts and drifted to sleep.

By the time morning comes around, I packed my supplies and clothes that I need to stay at the house I'm staying in.

I texted my friend Meggie that I'm ready because I'll be leaving at 12:00 pm.

She replied, "okay."

I walked downstairs with my stuff and got into a taxi.

I told him where to go, and he dropped me there. I saw Maggie wave and hug me.

She was the first one to talk.

"I hope you don't mind me bringing my boyfriend over; he doesn't like being alone," she said.

I smiled and I'm glad they are boyfriend and girlfriend, so I nodded.

She pulled me towards the restaurant and headed to the table.

I see Liam sitting on the seat; she sits next to him. I sigh, wishing I had someone like that.

"So, this is our famous Ella," Summer said Liam.

A song in the background by Billie Eilish, "When is the party over?"

I want to ask, why are you moving? Ask Maggie.

I was shaking and didn't want to tell her the whole truth. So I lied about some parts.

"Well, you see, my boss wanted me to stay there until I investigated for dead bodies," I said.

"Cool," I mean Liam clears his throat.

Meggie knows that I'm lying.

"Okay, why are you actually moving?" she said.

"Dang it, she's too good for me to lie to her."

"I am a paranormal hunter. I hunt ghosts," I said.

Maggie's eyes widened with worry.

"Maybe I can come with you and make sure that no ghost haunts you or goes through your body," said Maggie.

"No!" I didn't realize my voice was so loud that half of the people stopped and stared, then went back to their conversation.

I sighed and whispered to them, "You can't come, it's too dangerous, and besides, the boss wants me only to do the job."

"That's B's, you're my best friend. If anything happens to you, I will never forgive myself," she replied.

I took her hand and squeezed it.

I appreciate that you care for me and I would love for you to come, but it's way too dangerous," I said with a sigh.

She started to cry, and Liam hugged her. I gave him a stare for a little support and help; he knows what to do because he knows exactly what I want him to do.

He whispered in her ear as she looked up and wiped her last tear.

"It's now closed at 11 am," I got up and looked at her with sadness. I hugged her, and she started to sob. She let go and looked at Liam, then moved my mouth and said thank you silently.

He nodded.

I grabbed my luggage and got in the cab. I saw him waving goodbye, so I waved back.

I told the driver the location. He was shocked and looked at me with worry, just like my best friend did earlier.

I got out, and this house was huge. How could one person die and leave their spirit in the house where people can't get in?
