The next morning, Nora found herself in front of Alex’s house. She had to confront him—there was no way around it now.

She knocked on the door, her hands cold. Moments later, Alex answered. His face was pale, eyes shadowed, as though he hadn’t slept in days.

“Nora,” he muttered, his voice tight. “I told you to stay out of this.”

“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what happened to Ivy,” she said, her voice steady despite her racing heart. “I know she was scared of someone. Who is ‘The Shadow’? And why are you involved?”

Alex’s jaw clenched. He looked like he wanted to say something, but instead, he stepped aside, letting her in.

“Sit down,” he said gruffly. “I didn’t want you involved, but now... it’s too late.”

Nora sat, barely able to focus. “Who are they, Alex? What’s going on?”

“The group,” Alex started, his voice low, “Ivy... she was part of it. They promised her safety, power. They manipulated her.” His eyes met hers, and she saw a flicker of regret. “But Ivy wanted out. She tried to leave, and now she’s in danger.”

“What do you mean? Who is ‘The Shadow’?”

Alex exhaled sharply. “The Shadow is the leader of the group. He's untouchable. A well-respected man in this town—too well-respected. People don’t even know he’s behind all the disappearances. Ivy... she couldn’t escape. And now, neither of us can.”

Suddenly, a voice broke in from the other room.

“It’s too late for you both.”

Nora’s blood ran cold. A tall, thin figure stepped into the room—The Shadow.
