Snow fell upon the small cottages, as the streetlights flickered. The long narrow road lined with cottages seemed never ending. The wind slowly blew, whispering secrets. A lone figure stumbled down the thick snow coated road. Her hair was encased in a fluffy beanie, and her long coat dragged in the snow. She trembled from side to side, muttering words to herself. She was clearly intoxicated.
She dragged her feet through the snow, her head hung low. She looked up at the road ahead, revealing a pair of angelic blue eyes. Her pale skin and rosy, red cheeks made her irresistibly pretty. She continued walking down the lonesome road. She stopped out front of a small brick cottage. It had two large windows and a small wooden door. She crawled up the icy stairs and knocked repeatedly on the door. It slowly creaked open, the light from inside illuminated her face, and a smile blossomed, stretching from ear to ear.
"Maisie?" croaked a male's voice. "What are you doing here at this hour?" Maisie sighed her breathed smelled of alcohol. She closed her eyes.
"I don't know." She grumbled miserably. "What are you doing here Dexter?" Dexter gave her a blank look, his chocolate brown eyes locked with Maisie's blue eyes. Dexter was questioning why his ex-best friend and girlfriend was on his doorstep.
"I live here," he said, running his hand through his honey-coloured hair. It's not every day that you have the girl you loved on your doorstep. Maisie stared at him, waiting for him to say something else.
"Come inside you can crash on the couch," he muttered. Dexter knew he was making a mistake by letting her stay, but he couldn't leave her alone and drunk in the cold. She marched in taking of her coat and beanie. She allowed herself to fall on the couch, the pillows rested beside her cold body. It wasn't long until she was out cold. He threw a fluffy blanket over her. He glanced at her one more time before turning the lamp out.
