It all started with an artist, a designer who painted the world's great light into what many refer to as "The Flowering." The day life sprouting from nothing into something, opening its eyes to existence. Nature was born then, opening her arms to all forms of life under her care. Blessed by higher omniscience beyond us all, she prospered the balance of life and bore the dirt and mud to create flesh. Many beautiful things opened their eyes that day; the great and small, the feathered ones who danced and sang in the sky, the finned ones who possessed the seas, all creeping things to creepeth upon the Earth, and some creatures were made directly in the image of the great artist Himself. They were all looked upon and decided as good, blessed and harmonious were them all.
Until an act of recklessness formed a rift, no longer were the beasts rallied as one. A divide shook them all, giving rise to a new species born from evil. Perfection was broken; the beasts stood for nature, facing down the newly dethroned image of flaw: Man. The men and women carved a path of darkness, while the beasts great and small, feathered ones, finned ones, and every creeping thing fled to nature's arms. Through her tears, nature spoke to the beasts, telling them the turning of Man was not made in blind ambition. A slithering beast of their own had betrayed them, driving a stake through their flawless design. The beasts were now, by association, just as evil as man. But nature would not stand for the defiling of the order she maintained, now declaring a new way of blood. To atone for the evil of one, death would join the cycle of nature's order, calling for blood to feed the soil if life was to flourish ever more.
Among the many who rallied under nature was Kavi'Kahn, a bright beast with fur of stars and horns of many inspired eyes. Tall and beautiful, he was the fairest of them all, instructed sternly that evil would soon consume all it touched, and the way of nature's blood was their only sword against it. To repurpose death and destruction into life and nourishment, the secret the men and women would never know, it was the only way to bless the beasts for eternity.
As evil dispersed across the land, Kavi'Kahn bore two beautiful beasts of his own, molding them in his image. He informed them to act quickly, to not just multiply their kind, but strictly adhere to nature's way. And fruitful they were; the two gave rise to the first Deor to touch the Earth, known as the powerful Deor Bishops. Born for judgement, the Deor Bishops spread far and wide across the world, hostile to humanity and the evil they carried. The blood of another beast easily fulfilled nature's way, but the Bishops were arrogant, spitefully targeting Man, and Man alone.
Every man and woman slain was a gift to nature, a repentance and plea for forgiveness of the evil that tainted the beasts so long ago. True to nature's way, the killed humans were laid upon the soil, their bodies fed to the Earth to nourish new life in her name. The Deor Bishops soon began spawning even more of their kind; the Deor Baserunners that stalked through the forest, the Deor Doncellas that hunted fisherman from the sea, and the Deor Archons who tried kicking down the walls of the cities with their own brute force.
One day, after a great many centuries of prosping lands of plants and beasts fed from human life, a great flood came with no warning. Only two Deor survived through inexplicable means. Kav'Kahn vanished, and all Deor Bishops were consumed by the flood.
The remaining Deor attempted to multiply back to fruitful numbers, but without their creator and the Bishops, their power was severely hindered. Despite immeasurable persistence through hundreds upon thousands of years, their numbers have dwindled on the edge of nothing. It seemed extinction was imminent, mere shells of warriors they were designed for, a failure to nature and their own promises. With nothing left to give, the final Deor alive went into hiding, seeking to die alone and give their bodies to the soil to make new life.
Until Deerhead emerged.
