────── ACT ONE, CHAPTER SIX ──────
Alcohol Blindness

──────────── ✦ ────────────

I stayed at Donnie's apartment pretty much the whole night. Well, morning, since it was about four in the morning when I left work. It actually helped me gather my own thoughts, maybe even forget what went on yesterday. We did exactly what Donnie said that we would do. We watched movies, ate Fudge Stripe cookies, and laughed at the dumb horror movie characters as they died in the stupidest ways. It's honestly the most fun I've had in a while.

Mar never really felt like doing anything. Not anything of the tame sort. It always involved getting drunk. Now, listen, just because I work at a bar, doesn't mean I drink every day. I mean, I do like the occasional white wine, maybe tequila, but ... Mar likes vodka,
bourbon, and whiskey. Three things that I absolutely cannot drink unless I want an absolute hangover. And trust me, I don't need anything like that. Not when I have to work extra hours sometimes to support the both of us in our shitty apartment.

I fell asleep on Donnie's couch. It's not the first time that's happened. They leave me there if I do, additionally bringing me one of their blankets. I never know that they bring one until I wake up. In this case, it wasn't any different. Well, except Donnie waking me.

I feel him shake me a little bit. Is it annoying? Yeah. But I'm not annoyed by his presence. He's not as annoying as Sandie. He's not opening up any curtains to let the sun blind me. It's actually kind of nice.

"Alphie ..."

I hear his voice ringing through my ears. It definitely makes me stir a bit. I can feel him shaking me again. It's just as gentle.

"Alphie," Donnie says again, "lève-toi et brille, mon lapin."

He said it again. I wonder if it's just him trying to mess with my mind just a little bit. It does work, I open my eyes a little bit. Donnie is the first person I see. His emerald green eyes and his cheshire smile, it makes my heart pound a little faster.

"Le voilá," Donnie speaks, "finally awake I see. Took you long enough."

I give him a smile. "Quelle heure est-il?"

"It's about one in the afternoon," Donnie answers, "You think Mar is awake by now?"

Oh. Right. Mar. I forgot that I had to talk with him today. Talk it out. More like talk until my face is blue while he just ignores me. Goes straight into one ear and out the other.

"Probably," I say back, "It would be a shocker if Sandie hadn't woke him up yet."

Donnie hummed. "Guessing she's the one who keeps you two in order."

I shrug. "Something like that."

Donnie nodded. I can tell that he's thinking. He looks a little concerned. It makes me a little nervous. Maybe a little too much, because I eventually sat up from the couch.

"What are you thinking?" I ask.

Donnie shook his head. "Nothing important," he says back to me, "you still wanna talk to him?"
