The silence aboard the Resolute was palpable, an oppressive quiet that clung to every corner of the ship. Evelyn sat alone in her quarters, staring at the data pad on her desk. Jackson's face lingered in her thoughts, his final words echoing in her mind. He had betrayed them, sold them out to Kallak. But why? And how deep did his treachery go?

A sudden knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts. She quickly wiped the frustration from her face and stood. "Come in."

Lex entered, looking weary but resolute. His eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep, and his hands still shook from the battle. "Captain," he said, standing at attention.

Evelyn sighed. "At ease, Lex. We're not in a formal briefing."

Lex relaxed slightly but remained tense. "How are you holding up?"

Evelyn rubbed her temples, a headache beginning to form behind her eyes. "I'm fine," she lied. "What's the status of the ship?"

"We've stabilized the critical systems," Lex reported. "But we're still down to minimal shield capacity, and the main weapons array is offline. It'll take days, maybe weeks, to fully repair."

"We don't have weeks," Evelyn muttered. She stood and crossed the room, gazing out at the endless black of space through the viewport. "We're sitting ducks out here. If Kallak sends another wave..."

"We won't survive it," Lex finished, his voice grim. "I know."

Evelyn was quiet for a moment, her thoughts swirling. "Any sign of Morgan?"

Lex shook his head. "She's still missing. We're sweeping the lower decks, but there's no trace of her. It's like she vanished."

Evelyn's heart sank. Morgan had been with her since the beginning—one of the few people she thought she could trust. But after Jackson's betrayal, she wasn't sure if she could trust anyone anymore. What if Morgan had been part of it too?

"Keep looking," Evelyn said, her voice tight. "And be careful. Whoever Jackson was working with might still be onboard."

Lex gave a curt nod and left, leaving Evelyn alone once more. As the door slid shut, she clenched her fists in frustration. Jackson's betrayal had hit her harder than she wanted to admit. He had been her second-in-command, her confidant. Now, she didn't know who to turn to.

Just as she sank into her chair, the soft hum of the ship's systems suddenly shifted. The lights flickered, and a low, unfamiliar vibration pulsed through the walls. Evelyn's hand instinctively reached for her communicator. "Lex, report. What's going on?"

There was a moment of static before Lex's voice came through, tense and urgent. "Captain, we've detected a large energy signature approaching from the outer rim."

Evelyn's blood ran cold. "Is it Kallak?"

"We're not sure," Lex replied. "It doesn't match any known Kallak configurations. But whatever it is, it's big—and it's heading straight for us."

Evelyn's mind raced. She knew they couldn't survive another encounter in their current state. "Get the crew to battle stations. I'll be on the bridge in five."

She rushed out of her quarters and into the dimly lit corridors of the Resolute. The ship felt different now, as if the weight of Jackson's betrayal had seeped into its very hull. As she made her way toward the bridge, she couldn't shake the feeling that something far more sinister was coming for them.

When she arrived on the bridge, the tension in the air was suffocating. Lex stood at the tactical console, eyes fixed on the data streaming across the screen. "It's getting closer, Captain. Whatever it is, it'll be here in less than ten minutes."
