Don't want to face the truth: Chapter 5

After Poppy's and Creek's "quick chat", Poppy walked as fast as she could to her pod. When she entered, she headed towards her scrapbook shelf and grabbed her cardboard, her scissors, her glitters and got down to business. While making her scrapbook, thoughts were running free through her mind.

Why???? Why does this happen now??? Everything was normal between me and Branch and now I can't stay close to him without getting warm or losing my focus. And after that I can't go anywhere else without him. Branch is the last thing I think about before going to bed and the first thing when I wake up in the morning. He consumes all my thoughts. What's going on with me????

Poppy: "Ahhhhhh!!!!!" She growled in annoyance while closing her scrapbook shut and beat her head on the floor.

Peppy: "Poppy sweetie?"

Poppy: "D-dad hi. What are you doing here?"

Peppy: "I sensed that something was off with you these last few days. And now I can see that I was right since you're stressbooking. What's going on? Anything I can help with?"

Poppy: "Something's really wrong with me."

Peppy: "Why are you saying that sweetheart?"

Poppy got up from the floor and jumped on her bed hiding her face under her pillow. King Peppy came closer to his daughter's bed and sat beside her waiting patiently for her answer.

Poppy: "Something's going on with me and Branch."

Peppy: "Did you get into a fight?"

Poppy: "No and that's really weird. Branch was getting angry with me for being so happy and cheerful all the time and I was getting mad at him for being so grumpy and pessimistic all the time. That was our thing. And now we can't stop smiling like idiots when we are together."

Peppy: "And what else?"

Poppy: "My cheeks turn red. I'm getting warm. I'm sweating. I have a stomachache. I'm laughing like an idiot...."

Peppy: "And you lose your focus."

Poppy: "How do you know about that?"

Peppy: "Don't you remember?"

A lovely morning, King Peppy and Poppy were about to announce the activities of the day....

Poppy: "Then at 8:30 there's a chess tournament and at.......BRANCH!!!!"

.......until Branch passed by and Poppy stopped the announcements and ran up to him.

Poppy: "Dad, that's not what happened."

Peppy: "I'm pretty sure that it happened. What about the time when......"

Poppy and the snack pack had a picnic near the lagoon, and when Branch joined them after a while Poppy choked with her food and then when the picnic was over she was getting so warm that she jumped on the lagoon, even though it was snowing.

Poppy: "How do you know about that? You weren't even there."

Peppy: "You're friends told me. And what about the time when you accidentally called Cooper Branch. Or what about earlier this day when you and Creek were talking and when you noticed Branch walking around with Guy, Biggie and Cooper you forgot that you were with Creek."

Poppy: "You saw that? Did you see my whole conversation with Creek?"

Peppy: "No. I left after that."

Thank god.

Poppy: "I worked so hard to help Branch get his true colours back. To convince him to come to my parties and the regular troll activities and now all this ruins our relationship."

Peppy: "Is it though? Or is it making it even better?"

Poppy: "How does being awkward around each other most of the time make our relationship better?"

Peppy: "You're starting to develop different feelings for him because you have a crush on him."

Poppy: "No I don't."

Peppy: "Oh are you sure?" He said and got up and left Poppy's pod. Poppy got out of bed as well and ran up to the door and yelled at him: "YES I'M SURE."

After a few hours, Poppy couldn't stand being alone, staring at the sailing and overthinking about what her dad had told her. So she decided to go and find Branch, as they said earlier, and have fun. But when she got out of bed she was feeling pretty dizzy and weak. But that wouldn't stop her from seeing Branch. She continued her way to the door, and when she opened it she started chilling, which was weird because the weather was amazing. She knew that something was off with her, that's why she layed on her bed and sent Branch a letter, explaining why she couldn't meet him.

In less than a nanosecond

Branch: "Poppy!!!!!" Branch entered her pod and found her on her bed, covered with a blanket, chilling and sneezing.

Poppy: "Branch I'm so glad you're here."

Branch: "What happened? Are you okay?"

Poppy: "I'm fine. Just a cold. Achoo." Branch didn't buy it and came closer to her. He touched gently her forehead and...

Branch: "Oh my god, Poppy. You're burning up!!!"

Poppy: "What? No."

Branch: "Poppy, stop lying. You're sick."

Poppy: "I'm not. I'm ready- Achoo- for our bonding activity-Achoo."

Branch: "Poppy, I know that the word "sickness" is not a part of your vocabulary but you're not going anywhere." Poppy was shivering, so Branch noticed a few pink blankets in the corner of the room, and covered her tenderly. Eventually, Poppy felt better.

Poppy: "Thank you for taking care of me but you should go. I don't want you to get sick too."

Branch: "I'm not going anywhere, until I make sure that you're okay."

Poppy slightly laughed and her cheeks turned red. But, thanks to the fever, this didn't catch Branch's attention. Then, someone knocked on the door. Poppy assumed that it might be her father.

Branch: "I'll get it." Branch sat up and opened the door. But, to his and Poppy's disappointment, it was Creek.

Creek: "Branch."

Branch: "Creek. Can we help you?"

Creek: "I heard that my queen is sick and I wanted to check on her."

Branch: "Sorry, you're late." He said and closed the door. Creek growled in frustration and left.

Branch: "Since when do you let him call you his queen?"

Poppy: "Since never."

Branch: "Thought of it."

Poppy: "Thanks again."

Branch: "I told you. I won't let him come near you ever again. Are you warm enough? Do you need another blanket?"

Poppy: "No, I'm okay. But, I might need one thing."

Branch: "Shoot it."

Poppy: "Would you mind holding my hand until I fall asleep?"

Branch: "N-no. Of course." Branch touched gently Poppy's hand, and Poppy caressed his. A few minutes later, Poppy fell asleep and so did Branch.
