He turned around and caught sight of the car speeding towards them.
Bonnie gestured for the boy to come to him quickly, not taking his eyes off the oncoming vehicle. He quickly unloaded his bow again.
By the time Gregory was close enough for him to hold, the speeding off-road truck stopped directly beside them.
As soon as the driver opened the door to get out of the car, they immediately tried reaching out for the two.
Bonnie wasted no time shooting him point blank between his eyes. He pushed the boy to run off the road into the trees and followed behind him, taking note of the other aggressors leaving the car to chase them.
He hurried down the hill, continously pushing Gregory in front of him. The others were gaining on them, though it was unclear if they could see Bonnie and the boy.
They were about five minutes away from Foxy's house, which was in a clearing. He wondered if they could run further off the path in a straight line, then go forward towards the bunker again without being seen.
Bonnie heard one of them was getting dangerously close to seeing them and had to think fast. He scanned the woodland and managed to find a fallen, dead tree with an opening under it.
He could not make a sound, so he roughly grabbed Gregory by his jacket and yanked the boy towards him, wrapping his arms around him and turning towards the hiding spot.
Bonnie lept over the wood and slid himself and Gregory under it. He pushed the boy in as far as he could and shielded him with his body in case something happened.
He worried Gregory would cry or make a sound, so he held the boy close and kept a forceful paw over his mouth, gesturing for him to be quiet.
It was silent for a moment before they could hear one of the men slowly exploring the area. They were making their way towards the tree.
Both of them tensed up and froze in fear as they vaguely saw the man standing above them.
Bonnie's heart was beating rapidly as he feared him looking down. His light blue fur stood out against the dirt.
After a few more agonizing seconds, the man jogged over to their side as something caught his eye.
Gregory had dropped his small pocket knife. It must have fallen out of his pocket when Bonnie grabbed him.
They were terrified at first, thinking this gave away their hiding spot. Thankfully, it did the opposite.
The man must have assumed they had run further and hurried down the direction they were going before, past the tree.
Bonnie waited for the sound of footsteps to fade before he ushered Gregory out of hiding and climbed out himself. He quickly guided the boy towards the direction of the bunker, and they hurried that way. They could still hear the men searching for them, though they did not sound close enough to be a threat.
It took about seven minutes, but they finally saw the house ahead. Before going into the clearing, Bonnie scanned the area to make sure no one was there. There were no hiding spots around here.
When he deemed it was safe, he took the boy's paw less aggressively this time and power-walked towards the house to unlock the bunker again.
They only relaxed once they were inside, and the door was locked behind them. Bonnie took a breath of relief and leaned on the door, glancing at the boy.
"Are you okay, Greg...?" He whispered breathlessly from the running.
Gregory nodded, being too tired to respond. The adrenaline was wearing off and left them exhausted. He pat the boy's shoulder with a small smile.
"You can go straight to your room and rest, I'll take care of everything." He assured.
The boy groaned in exhaustion and left, walking right past Foxy, who was coming to greet them at the door.
"What happened to ye'? Ye' look like ye' just ran a marathon-" He pointed out, reaching forward to help Bonnie if needed.
Bonnie chuckled. "We did... some car stopped by us on the road..."
Foxy's eye narrowed in concern as they walked towards the kitchen.
"What did they do??" He questioned. Bonnie shook his head.
"They couldn't do anything, thankfully. They were leaving the car and looked like they wanted to grab us, so I shot the driver and ran into the woods with Gregory... they chased us for a while, but... we managed to escape-"
Foxy hummed. "No one followed ye', did they?"
Bonnie shook his head. "I made sure."
Foxy glanced down at his paws and helped to take the backpack off him.
"Yer' shakin', lad! Maybe ye' should lay down."
Bonnie brushed it off with a smile. "I'm fine! It's probably the adrenaline... I need to keep myself busy." He insisted, unloading his bag Foxy left on the table.
"Where's Freddy? Usually he comes and greets me-" Bonnie wondered out loud. Foxy crossed his arms.
"He's been nappin' for a while... I can go wake 'im." Foxy started to leave. Bonnie quickly stopped him.
"Don't... he needs the rest, he's been working really hard lately." He pulled out the bag.
"Look what we caught!" He showed off the fish to Foxy. "Are you guys gonna' want any?"
Foxy shook his head with a small smile. "We eat plen'y o' that fish from the river... Freddy can 'ave it."
Bonnie shrugged, keeping his smile. "I'll prepare it for him while he sleeps."
Foxy nodded and left, leaving him to prepare the food.
