(A Father's Plea for His Niece)

As the soft clinking sound of anklets faded and Madhavi disappeared behind the corridor, Mrs. Meera Rana and Satyanarayan exchanged a quick glance. Satyanarayan, still basking in the joy of this moment, leaned toward Mrs. Rana and whispered, "Why don't we give the kids some time to get to know each other?"

Mrs. Rana nodded with a warm smile, turning to Shankar. "Beta, why don't you and Madhavi go upstairs for a bit? Get to know each other better," she suggested, her tone light and encouraging.

Shankar's eyes flickered with a mix of reluctance and curiosity. However, he silently obeyed, rising from his seat. Madhavi, though initially caught off guard, maintained her cheerful facade. She gave a slight nod and led Shankar up the staircase, her smile never wavering even as her thoughts churned inside her.

Once the two were out of sight, the atmosphere in the room shifted. Mrs. Rana, now left alone with Satyanarayan, took a deep breath, preparing herself to ask a question that had been weighing on her mind since she arrived.

However, as the initial excitement began to die down, a question that had been lingering in Mrs. Rana's mind since she arrived tugged at her heart. She shifted in her seat, her eyes now carrying a slight hesitation. After all, she had noticed something peculiar from the moment she first stepped into this household—there was no sign of Madhavi's parents anywhere.

Mrs. Rana decided to address her curiosity. She leaned forward, placing her chai cup delicately on the table. "Satyanarayan ji," she began, her tone gentle yet cautious, "I hope you don't mind me asking... I couldn't help but notice that I've never seen Madhavi's parents around. Are they...?"

Satyanarayan's joyous demeanor dimmed slightly, the sparkle in his eyes fading into a somber reflection of past memories. The room seemed to grow quieter as if even the surrounding walls were listening. He sighed heavily, his shoulders slumping as he gathered his thoughts.

"It's not easy for me to talk about this," he began, rubbing his hands together to steady himself. "But since you are now becoming part of our family, you deserve to know the truth." His voice grew softer, tinged with sadness. "My sister... it pains me to say this, but she was always chasing after wealth and luxury. She was a greedy woman. She married a successful businessman, thinking it would bring her the life she dreamed of. But things were never that simple."

Mrs. Rana listened intently, her heart already aching for the young girl upstairs who was always so cheerful yet now appeared to carry unseen burdens.

Satyanarayan continued, his voice heavy with emotion. "Madhavi was just a little girl, only eight years old, when her mother left her without a word. She abandoned both her husband and her daughter, disappearing into thin air. And as if that wasn't enough, Madhavi's father soon followed suit. He left her behind, chasing his ambitions in America, without so much as a goodbye. The poor child was left waiting... hoping... but no one came back for her."

A heavy silence filled the room as Mrs. Rana absorbed this revelation. Her heart went out to Madhavi, imagining the pain and confusion she must have experienced as a child. She could picture those innocent eyes looking out the window every day, waiting for parents who never returned.

Mrs. Rana's voice was soft, almost a whisper. "That must have been so difficult for her. But do you... do you know where they are now? Have you tried to reach out to them?"

At this, Satyanarayan's expression turned from sorrow to stern resolve. "Wherever they are, it's best they stay far away. I have raised Madhavi as my own daughter, and I won't let anyone, especially those who abandoned her, bring her pain again. She is my daughter now." His voice softened again, and he looked at Mrs. Rana with pleading eyes. "I've given her everything I could, but there's one thing I could never give her... a mother's love."
