Jai Pratap Rana sat in his luxurious bedroom, his sharp eyes fixed on the glowing screen of his iPad, analyzing the growth of his empire. Numbers, graphs, and reports danced in front of him, but his mind was as still as the vast Udaipur skyline visible through the grand window beside him. The city, bathed in the golden hues of the evening sun, stretched before him—a kingdom he had built with sweat, discipline, and an iron will.
He sat on a single-seater sofa, clad in his crisp white kurta, his reading glasses resting on the bridge of his nose. Every inch of the room reflected his stature—Rajasthani antiques adorned the walls, regal paintings depicting warriors and kings hung in their place, and the fragrance of sandalwood lingered in the air. A man of power, control, and an unforgiving temper, Jai Pratap Rana was feared in the business world. But there was one person who had never feared him.
"Jai?" Meera's soft voice broke his focus. He turned slightly, watching his wife walk toward him, her smile as gentle as the evening breeze. Even after all these years, she carried an aura of warmth and grace, her presence calming like a temple bell's chime.
Jai set his iPad aside and removed his glasses, rubbing his temples briefly before looking at her. "You don't need to ask, Meera," he said, his voice steady yet softer than it usually was with others. "Just say what's on your mind."
His gaze shifted back to the city view, but his thoughts drifted elsewhere. Meera... his wife, his peace, his only soft spot in a world full of hardened edges. She had married a man burdened with responsibilities and the weight of a legacy, but she had never once complained. He remembered the early days—the way she had learned his ways, how she had stood beside him without question, how she had seen through his anger and found the man underneath.
If there was one thing Jai Pratap Rana was certain of, it was this—Meera was the only person who truly knew him.
Meera walked closer and placed her soft, warm hand on Jai's shoulder, her touch light yet full of silent reassurance. Jai didn't flinch—he never did when it came to her. Instead, he placed his own hand over hers, a silent acknowledgment, his gaze still fixed on the city. The golden hues of the evening had now started turning into deeper shades of orange, casting long shadows across their grand room.
"I think Shankar is ready for marriage," Meera said, her voice gentle yet filled with conviction.
Jai Pratap hummed in response, neither agreeing nor disagreeing just yet. He was a man who listened before speaking, who weighed words like gold before letting them escape his lips. His fingers lightly pressed over hers, urging her to continue.
Meera took a deep breath and smiled. "I have met a girl, and I really like her," she said. "Her name is Madhavi. I met her Mama and Mami ji as well, and they are wonderful people. They come from a respectable family, and more than that, I believe Madhavi is the perfect match for our son."
For a moment, there was silence. Jai did not turn to her immediately, nor did he react. He merely listened, absorbing every word, every emotion hidden within them. His Meera had always been a woman of careful choices, of thoughtful actions. She would never make a decision lightly.
After what felt like an eternity, Jai finally turned his face towards her, his sharp gaze meeting her hopeful eyes. He gave a single, firm nod.
"Alright," he said. "I will call Pandit ji and ask him to fix a date for their marriage."
