As Mikey wandered deeper into the dark, damp tunnels of the sewer, her body still ached from her last fight with the snapping turtle. She carefully navigated around piles of debris, occasionally stopping to make makeshift bandages for the cuts and bruises she had sustained. The fabric of her torn shirt was now wrapped around her legs and arms, the fibers roughly torn but enough to keep the worst of the infections away. She used her keen sense of smell to ensure she wasn’t walking into any traps or dangerous areas, but that’s when something caught her attention.

A strange scent lingered in the air. It wasn’t the typical stench of decay or sewer sludge. This one was... sharper, metallic even, mixed with something wild, something that made her fur stand on end. The hairs on the back of her neck prickled as her whiskers twitched in the direction of the smell. It was faint, but it carried a scent she couldn’t ignore.

Carefully, she padded closer, moving silently through the shadows. The smell grew stronger as she approached an abandoned, semi-open space in the sewer. The walls were lined with old, jagged pipes, and scattered bones and scraps of food littered the floor.

Mikey paused at the edge of the space and peered out from behind a large pile of rubble. What she saw made her freeze.

A mutant rabbit was crouched low, gnawing on the body of a rat. Its fur was matted and patchy, and strange, jagged scars marked its muscular body. The thing was huge—almost as large as a small dog, with powerful hind legs and claws that looked far sharper than they should have been. Its eyes were feral, glinting in the dim light, as it tore through the rat’s flesh without a hint of hesitation.

Mikey’s stomach churned, but she didn’t look away. Something about this creature seemed off. Her whiskers twitched again as she focused her sharp senses, reading the faint outline of a display in the corner of her vision—an unfamiliar but welcome system notification. She forced her body to stay still as the creature continued to feed.
