Sunoo finally made it home after a long day. He was exhausted but satisfied; his classes had gone well, and the brief moments he'd shared with Riki earlier kept replaying in his mind. There was something oddly magnetic about him—like the way he teased Sunoo, but never in a mean-spirited way, or how his presence seemed to linger even after he was gone.
As Sunoo kicked off his shoes and was about to collapse on the couch, a familiar voice from the kitchen startled him.
"Hello, little brother!"
Sunoo spun around, eyes wide. "Seol-ya? What are you doing here?"
Standing in the doorway, Seol-ya grinned mischievously, holding a small pet carrier. Inside, a pair of bright green eyes peeked out, followed by a soft meow.
"I brought you a little surprise," she said, setting the carrier down and opening it.
Sunoo's heart leapt as a familiar black ball of fluff hopped out, looking up at him expectantly.
"Luni!" he exclaimed, dropping to his knees to scoop her up. The cat purred loudly, rubbing her head against his chin.
Seol-ya rolled her eyes, leaning against the doorway. "You act like you haven't seen her in years," she teased.
"It's been ages," Sunoo shot back, holding Luni close. "Thanks for bringing her. She hasn't been too much trouble, right?"
"Not too bad," Seol-ya said with a shrug. "But she misses you. She's been sulking around my place like a heartbroken ex."
Sunoo gave Luni a final nuzzle before setting her down and turning back to Seol-ya. "So, are you just here to be my cat delivery service?"
"Pretty much," Seol-ya replied, flopping onto the couch with the confidence of someone who owned the place. "And to check in on you. Make sure you're not becoming a full-on hermit."
"Ha, ha," Sunoo deadpanned, grabbing some snacks from the kitchen and tossing her a bag of chips. "I'm doing fine, thank you very much."
"Really?" Seol-ya asked, raising an eyebrow as she ripped open the bag. "So, how's university? Made any friends?"
Sunoo hesitated, nibbling on a cookie to stall. He knew exactly where this conversation was heading.
"Yeah, a few," he said cautiously, avoiding her gaze.
Seol-ya leaned forward, her eyes glinting with mischief. "A few? Sounds suspicious. Spill. Anyone special?"
Sunoo sighed, cheeks already warming. Seol-ya wasn't the type to let anything slide, but there was something comforting about her curiosity. It felt safe.
"Fine," he muttered, pink-faced. "There's... this guy. His name's Riki."
Seol-ya's grin spread like wildfire. "Oh! So you finally have a crush!"
Sunoo's face turned an even deeper shade of pink. "I didn't say that!" he protested. "We just met, okay? He's... intriguing. Cute. Funny. And maybe a little annoying, but not in a bad way."
"Interesting," Seol-ya said, leaning back with a smug look. "And what's stopping you from making a move?"
Sunoo groaned. "For one, I don't even know if he's into guys. And even if he was, what if he just sees me as a friend?"
Seol-ya waved a hand dismissively. "Sunoo, please. Have you seen yourself? You act more feminine than I do. If he's into guys, he's definitely going to notice you."
"Wow, thanks for that, Seol-ya," Sunoo said, rolling his eyes.
"But I'm serious," she added, smirking. "You have this way of drawing people to you without even trying. If this Riki guy keeps popping up, it's not just by chance."
Sunoo shrugged, her words stirring something in the back of his mind. "I don't know... Maybe."
"Don't overthink it," Seol-ya said with a playful nudge. "Just enjoy getting to know him. Who knows? He might surprise you."
They spent the next hour catching up, talking about everything from Seol-ya's beauty business to the quirky habits Luni had picked up. Luni, for her part, seemed perfectly content weaving between their legs and sprawling across their laps.
As the sky darkened outside, Sunoo glanced at the clock. "It's late," he said, turning to Seol-ya. "Why don't you just stay over? You can crash in my room."
Seol-ya raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure? I don't want to intrude."
"You brought me Luni. That makes you family royalty tonight," Sunoo said, grinning.
"Alright, fine," Seol-ya relented. "But you'd better not hog all the blankets."
They set up a cozy spot in Sunoo's room, piling blankets and pillows on the floor. Luni curled up at the foot of the bed, her soft purring filling the space.
Sunoo pulled up a horror movie, knowing exactly how much Seol-ya hated them.
"Ugh, why this?" she groaned, pulling the blanket up to her chin as the opening credits rolled.
"Because it's fun watching you freak out," Sunoo said, grinning mischievously.
They spent the night alternating between screams and laughter, each jump scare followed by teasing banter. For Sunoo, it felt like a piece of home had found its way back to him.
As the movie ended and the room quieted, Sunoo glanced over at Seol-ya, who was already half-asleep. Luni stretched out across her lap, purring softly.
He smiled to himself, a deep sense of contentment settling over him. He didn't know what would come of Riki or the strange, fluttery feeling he brought out in him, but for now, this moment was enough.
With Luni at his side and Seol-ya nearby, Sunoo felt truly at home.
