The weekend air was crisp as Sunoo walked home, his hands tucked into his coat pockets. The chill bit lightly at his cheeks, but he barely noticed, his thoughts caught on the café and the encounter that had lingered longer than planned.

Riki's casual charm replayed in his mind—the quiet teasing, the way his eyes softened as he glanced at Sunoo's sketches, and the unexpected request to text when he got home. The words had seemed simple enough in the moment, but now they looped in Sunoo's head, bringing a warmth that had nothing to do with the oversized scarf wrapped around his neck.

As he stepped into his apartment, the familiar jingling of Luni's bell greeted him. The small cat padded over, meowing loudly in what sounded like scolding.

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Sunoo murmured, crouching to scratch behind her ears. "I'm late. Blame the guy who I had to share my lemon tart with."

Luni stared at him with her usual mix of disinterest and entitlement before circling his legs. Sunoo sighed and headed to the kitchen, grabbing a handful of treats. "I didn't forget. Here, peace offering."

The cat purred in satisfaction as Sunoo set the treats down. He straightened up, rolling his shoulders as he glanced around the room.

Later, Sunoo curled up on the couch, a blanket draped over him. The soft glow of the TV lit the room, but he wasn't really paying attention to the drama playing out on the screen. His phone sat beside him on the cushion, and his gaze kept flicking toward it.

He could still hear Riki's voice. "Text me when you get home."

He picked up the phone, unlocking it with a swipe. The empty message screen stared back at him, and he hesitated. What exactly do I say?

After a moment, he typed out a simple message:

Riki 💜

Made it home safe
Thanks for checking in 🙂

He paused, frowning. Was that too plain? Too formal? Adding a small smile, he inserted an emoji before second-guessing himself entirely. Before he could delete the text, Luni jumped onto the couch, nudging his hand. The sudden motion caused his thumb to hit send.

"Luni!" Sunoo groaned, looking at her with mock betrayal. "I wasn't done yet!"

The cat, unimpressed, settled into the blanket, her tail curling neatly around her.

Sunoo sighed and was about to set his phone down when it vibrated with a reply.

Riki 💜

Good 😛
Don't want my café partner
getting lost or something.

A small smile tugged at Sunoo's lips.

I have a great sense of direction,
thank you very much. 😚

Sure you do 🤥

The exchange quickly turned into a back-and-forth of playful banter. Riki's replies were short and teasing, but there was a warmth in them that made Sunoo's chest feel light. He found himself laughing quietly, the tension from overthinking earlier completely gone.

Later that night, after tidying up and slipping into his pajamas, Sunoo found himself lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. Luni dozed on the pillow next to him, her soft breathing the only sound in the room.

He replayed the events of the day in his mind. It wasn't just the café or the lemon tart—it was the way Riki had looked at his sketches, how genuine his compliments had felt, and the quiet care behind his request.

"Luni," Sunoo whispered, turning his head to look at the cat. "Do you think he likes me?"

Luni cracked open one eye, as if unimpressed with the question, and flicked her tail.

"Yeah, you're probably right," Sunoo muttered, half-smiling to himself. "He's just being nice. That's all."

But as his eyes drifted shut, the memory of Riki's soft smirk and the sound of his voice lingered.

"Text me when you get home."

Somehow, those words had felt like more than just a polite gesture, and the thought of them stayed with Sunoo long after he fell asleep.
