Chapter 13

"OH. MY. GOD!"

I grimaced. "No need to shout, jeez."

Lily squealed. "YOU – REMUS –" I threw a pillow at her face, cutting her off.

"You don't have to tell the whole bloody castle, Lily."

"Tell them what?" Mary said, shutting the dormitory door behind her.

"Nothing," I said quickly, and Lily frowned.

"But –"

"Lily, do you want to get something from the kitchens?" I hinted, before making my way out to the hallway. Lily joined me a few seconds later, and we walked down the stairs.

"Why don't you want to tell Mary?"

"Because –" I sighed, sitting down on the window seat in the corner of the common room. "Because it was just a kiss, Lily. We're not together or anything."

"But... you clearly like each other, and you kissed –"

"It's not that simple."

"It is if you want it to be," said Lily.

"I do want it to be," I sighed.

"Then why can't it be?"

"It just can't! We haven't even really talked since it happened..."

"What? "

I rolled my eyes. "I mean, yes we've talked, but not...properly."

Lily groaned. "You guys really need to get your act together, not gonna lie. It's exhausting."

"Imagine how I feel," I grumbled.

"No, I think it's worse for everyone else," said Lily.

"How?"

"We have to watch you from afar, not doing anything about your feelings. It is very painful, trust me."

I glared.

"Thanks, Lily."

"No problem. Now, if you'll excuse me, I am going to see Severus," Lily said, making her way over to the door.

"Oh, am I not good enough for you now?"

"It's his birthday," she said in exasperation, before slamming the door shut behind her.

"Your Career's Advice session is designed to help guide you towards possible careers after you graduate school, and assist you in choosing your N.E.W.T courses," said Professor McGonagall. "Sessions will be with your Head of House during different lesson periods. A timetable of these sessions will be on your Common Room noticeboard by tomorrow morning. Now, back to your study."

"I think I want to be an Auror," said James thoughtfully.

I raised my eyebrow. "Really?"

"Yeah."

"Is that because of Dad?"

James shrugged. "Eh, I guess so. I mean, it's quite a fun job to do."

"Fun?" Remus echoed. "Putting your life on the line twenty four-seven is fun to you?"

My brother glared. "Cool?"

Remus rolled his eyes. "Whatever. If you get yourself killed, don't blame me."

"He won't get himself killed by being an Auror, Remus," said Lily. "He's going to get killed by me if he DOESN'T STOP BEING SUCH A PRICK TO SEVERUS."
