"Is there anything in here that Sirius won't have already?" I sighed, running my fingers along the products on the shelves as I aimlessly walked down the aisle in Zonko's joke shop.

"Probably not," admitted Remus. "We could always try Tomes and Scrolls?"

I gave him a look. "Since when does Sirius read?"

Remus hesitated, before shrugging. "There could be a book about how to hex your family, I'm sure he'd like that."

I laughed. "I'm sure he would. But I think maybe...Spintwitches? We could all chip in and buy him a new broom, he's wanted one for ages and his mum refused to get him one."

Remus rolled his eyes. "Of course she did. Well, I think James and Peter have already got him something, but I'm sure we'll have enough money. We might have to buy a cheaper one though, but I doubt he'd mind too much."

"I think he'd like any broom at the moment," I agreed, and Remus grabbed my hand before leading me out of the shop. I gasped at the sudden blow of icy air.

"Why is it s-so c-c-cold?" I shivered as we trudged down the street. "I'm surprised it isn't s-snowing already."

"It probably will soon," said Remus, before pulling me into Spintwitches. "It is November, after all."

I let out a sigh as the heat from the shop washed over me. Remus chuckled, and made his way over to the selection of brooms near the back of the shop.

"Oooohhhhh," I said coming up behind him. "They're pretty."

"Yes they are. But which one will Sirius think is most pretty? That we can afford."

"Ummmm..." I flicked my eyes from the most expensive, most desired broomsticks, to the more affordable but less desired ones. I chewed my lip.

"Those ones aren't that pretty, Remus."

"No, they aren't," agreed Remus sadly.

I looked up at him nervously. "What do we do?"

He frowned. "We could...make it a birthday and Christmas present?"

"I still don't have the money, most of it is at Gringotts. I was going to get it out when we go home, and get everyone's presents at Diagon Alley."

"I have quite a lot of money with me because I'm staying here this Christmas, so I can pay the rest and you can owe me?"

My jaw dropped open. "You're staying here for Christmas? On your own?"

Remus nodded. "My parents are going to visit my grandmother – she's ill and they don't think she's going to get much better. I wanted to go with them, but they wouldn't let me, they said it would upset me too much." He rolled his eyes.

I rubbed his arm comfortingly. "They're only trying to look after you, you can't be angry with them for that. And you are not staying at Hogwarts all by yourself at Christmas. No. No way," I shook my head defensively.

Remus groaned. "Please don't stay here, I don't want you to miss out being with your family just for me."

"You," I said sternly, "are going to be spending Christmas with me and James."

He raised an eyebrow, "Oh?"

I nodded. "Yep, I am going to owl my parents as soon as we get back to school."

"Do I get a choice about this?"

"Nope."

Remus sighed. "Fine. Now, which one do we get him then?" Remus gestured to the selection of broomsticks in front of us.
