I DO NOT OWN BRIDGERTON. SHOUTOUT TO EVERYONE WHO CARES ABOUT THIS STORY.
Bridgerton house. London, United Kingdom. 3 days later.
According to tradition, there were to be 3 days of breathing room after the first event of the season before the courting actually began. Daphne was over the moon about the potential callers. I already knew how her season was going to go, but it would be troublesome of me to burst her bubble. She'd be second guessing everything about her life if she did believe me, and convince Lady Violet to send me to a mad house if she didn't; neither outcome was pleasurable. So I just kept my mouth shut and tried to look like I gave a damn about my "sister's" prospects. After breakfast, I joined Daphne and Violet in the drawing room where the gentleman callers were to be received. We were joined by Francesca and Hyacinth, who were working on their embroidery; and Eloise who had her nose stuck in a book. We had not been in their for 10 minutes before a servant opened the door. Daphne and her mother rose, expecting a caller; only to receive their eldest brother/son instead.
"Anthony, I did not expect to see you here this morning!" Daphne exclaimed as she tried to hide her displeasure after enduring the son of a bitch's meddling at the Danbury ball.
"It is terribly early for you, dearest." Lady Violet remarked as she was in the same boat as her eldest daughter: convinced that the viscount was going to sabotage Daphne's season; knowingly or not.
"I could not sleep for some reason; all the excitement, I presume." Anthony remarked as he took a snack from the tray and popped it into his mouth.
"We thought you were one of our dear sister's callers." I commented as Anthony plopped his pretentious arse on the couch.
"Am I the first gentleman to arrive? How wonderful!" Anthony replied with a smirk as the Bridgerton women were none too pleased with him.
"And on that note, I'm off; best of luck Daph." I said as I got out of my seat; wanting to avoid the awkwardness to come. I kissed Violet on the cheek as a son would before making a quick getaway, leaving dear Daphne to her romantic folly.
Featherington House. Later that afternoon.
I spent the better part of the day being bored off my ass as I walked about Grosvenor square. Unless you were going to go to one of the social clubs, such as White's to drink and gamble; past-times that had never really struck my fancy. Otherwise, there were the brothels; filled with sexy ladies who would do dudes for dollars, or technically pounds. While I certainly wouldn't mind a good roll in the sheets, when considering the fact that condoms wouldn't be invented for about thirty eight more years, I was going to pass on the prostitutes.
I went window shopping at the haberdashery and the local market place; which I begrudgingly admit that I enjoyed. I then stopped at a cafe for lunch, where I had a decent meal of a meat pie with peas and a pint of ale to wash it down. After a while, i decided to start heading back to Bridgerton House. As I was walking through the back way or the scenic route, I happened to see Marina Thompson in the Featherington's backyard. She looked confused as Hell, so I went up to the gate and rapped on it loud enough to get her attention.
"May I help you sir?" Marina asked as she slowly came over to the back gate.
"Forgive me, Miss Thompson. I did not meant to intrude upon your alone time. I was just taking a stroll about and I..." I trailed off as i struggled to give a reason for my being there that didn't make me sound like some weird ass stalker dude.
"Wished to introduce yourself?" Marina finished for me as i quickly nodded.
"Indeed, I am Colin Bridgerton." I said as I put my hand through the bars before realizing that a gentleman was supposed to kiss a lady's hand. Marina slowly took my hand and gave it a decent shake.
"A pleasure, Mr. Bridgerton." She replied with a ghost of a smile. "You interrupted nothing, I was merely feeling overwhelmed by the flow of men pouring into the Featherington's drawing room."
"I see...I know it is none if my business, but do you already have a suitor back home?" I asked as i couldn't just straight up talk about George Crane and their ill fated hookup.
"I believe that I do..." Marina responded after a few moments as clearly she had never defined her relationship with George before he took her in the sack.
"Well, may I say that he is a lucky man indeed, to have a beauty like yourself considering his suit." I said, inwardly patting myself on the back for mastering the regency lingo as good as I had.
"I think you mean to flatter me." Marina replied with a smirk.
"I mean to make an observation, you may take it as flattery if you wish." I shrugged as she chuckled at my expense.
"I should go inside before Lady Featherington sends the maid out looking for me." Marina said as she turned to leave. I couldn't let her leave, as much as I shouldn't. I felt wuch pity for what she would endure over the next 2 seasons.
"Miss Thompson, may I perhaps call upon you tomorrow?" I asked as she turned back towards me. "Merely as a friend, I mean. Perhaps if you entertain my suit, it will wars off the other men of the Ton."
"If you wish, but I beg you, if you must bring a gift, just being flowers. The expensive trinkets i received today reek of pretension." Marina replied with a eye roll as she went back inside.
"No arguement here, sister." I remarked to myself as I quickly made my way back to Bridgerton House.
