"Mom..." He whispered, turning back.

His once wide eyes turned into the cold ones again, as he looked at the woman standing there, who was one of the maids, around Adley's age.

"What are you doing here? No. How do you know about this room?" He asked coldly, standing up and marching towards her.

"It doesn't matter, son-"

"It does. And I'm not your son." He roared in a deadly voice.

"You are. Your mother told me you are." She said, as soon as she did, Jayden lost his temper on the mention of his mother.

"JUST SHUT IT!" He shouted at her with red eyes.

"Jayden isn't just my son. He's yours as well. I know I'm about to die, and I don't blame my son for anything. Please, take care of him after I leave. Make sure he doesn't hate himself for anything. Make sure he doesn't live the life Adley wants him to. I'm asking you this favour. Please do this for me as my best friend, Sementha. Please. I ask of you. Tell him I love him more than anything. Tell him he's the best thing ever happened to me no matter what happens. Tell him that no matter what, he's always my son, and I always love him." Jayden's mother; Anastasia, said through a recorder.

As soon as this began, Jayden had recognized the voice. Tears welled up in his eyes as he tried his best to not let them escape.

"Who are you?"

___

"So basically, you're my mother's best friend from childhood. Her sister, to be precise." Jayden said, looking down at the table.

Apparently, they're sitting in the same room, on the floor. It was completely empty, no place to sit or anything, so, yeah.

"Yes. Before she died," The maid, Sementha, started.

As soon as she mentioned 'died', Jayden's heart shivered. Unlimited amount of regret and self-hatred rushed through him, as he clenched his jaw to prevent himself from breaking down.

"She called me at our old meeting place. It was the first time we were meeting after her marriage. Her condition made me want to kill Adley, which I promised myself I'd do. And at that time, she told me everything going on. How he'd torture her. How he'd bring his one nightstand at the house in daylight and tell her to serve those bitches until night. How he'd come home drunk every night. One day, he was more drunk than usual. And he forced himself on her. You were born a year after." She explained everything.

Jayden's mind started clearing out. As he knew some of the things before and the new news making him want to slit Adley's throat. Despite everything he was feeling, he kept on sitting whole looking at his lap with his jaw clenching more and more with each word.

"Adley wanted you to be like him, which Anastasia definitely didn't want. But he succeeded, after all." Sementha said, looking directly at Jayden.

At this, he also looked up at her and, oh, she looked too much like his mother.

'𝘜𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺... 𝘏𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥...'  He thought, looking at his lap again.

"Anastasia knew what he was planning to do. The plan of murdering her. She told me it all. And that was when she said everything you heard in the recording right now."

"Oh..." Jayden felt the loss of words for the second time in his life.

"I failed to fulfill her wish, tho. But I was waiting for the right moment. Kid, I know each and everything about you. From the day she died till now, I've seen each and everything you went through. And before all that, whatever he did, I heard it from Anastasia."
