A few days into her new life at Maharaja Institute, Aditi was beginning to feel more familiar with the campus. She spent her mornings navigating between classes, her afternoons in the library, and her evenings catching up with Neha and the other new friends she had made over chai at the campus café. While the city and college environment still felt overwhelming at times, Aditi was slowly finding her footing.
Dressed in a simple yellow kurti paired with jeans, her hair tied back in her usual braid, Aditi blended her village roots with the college's vibrant style. She'd observed other students' modern clothing and flashy accessories, but Aditi took pride in her humble attire—it was a connection to home that she wasn't ready to give up.
One afternoon, as she walked through the spacious campus library, she marveled at the rows of towering bookshelves filled with countless books. Aditi loved the library; it was quiet, calming, and filled with knowledge waiting to be discovered.
As she moved toward the section on social studies, a tall, well-dressed young man walked past her, looking intently at his phone. He wore a simple white shirt rolled up at the sleeves and jeans, his hair neatly styled. His presence had an air of quiet authority, and his face, with sharp, expressive features, was striking. She didn't know who he was, but he looked familiar.
Just as she was about to pull a book from the shelf, the young man accidentally bumped into her shoulder.
Young Man (startled, looking up): "Oh, I'm sorry! I wasn't paying attention."
Aditi (surprised but polite): "It's okay. I was distracted too."
Their eyes met briefly, and Aditi felt a flicker of curiosity about this stranger. There was something composed and grounded about him, though she brushed off the thought and focused on her own reason for being there.
Young Man (with a small smile): "Are you new here?"
Aditi (nodding shyly): "Yes... just a few days in."
The young man seemed about to say something more when his phone vibrated. He glanced at it, his expression shifting to one of urgency.
Young Man: "Sorry—I have to go. Nice meeting you."
