Phayu sat on the couch, staring blankly at the empty glass in his hand. The house felt suffocating, haunted by memories of Rain. Everywhere he turned, he saw him-his innocent face, his hopeful eyes, his bright smile.
The living room reminded him of the time Rain had come over, happily sitting on his lap, trying to bridge the gap between them. Phayu had hurt him that day-brushing him off, refusing to feed him, even mocking his efforts to care for him. The memory is stung now.
The kitchen was no better. Rain had cooked for him, putting his heart into every meal, only for Phayu to reject it. He never once appreciated Rain's efforts, and yet Rain never stopped trying.
The bedroom was the worst. Rain had shared only a few nights there, but it felt like a lifetime of warmth and love. Rain had constantly sought closeness, ignoring Phayu's coldness and giving him chance after chance to open up. Rain's affection had been unwavering, even in the face of Phayu's rudeness.
Now, those memories crushed Phayu. Rain's cute face, his shy blush, and the way his eyes sparkled with affection-all of it haunted him. Rain had been so patient, so kind. And what had Phayu done? He'd pushed him away, hurt him, and now he might have lost him forever.
For two weeks, Phayu drowned himself in work and alcohol. He stayed late at the office, avoiding the emptiness of his home. But no matter how busy he kept himself, the guilt gnawed at him. His mind replayed every moment, every hurtful word, every mistake.
When Pai visited again, he found Phayu looking pale and drained. The house was a mess, with bottles scattered around. Pai sighed and sat down beside him.
"Phayu, you can't go on like this,"
Pai said firmly.
"You're destroying yourself. Talk to Rain. Fix this."
Phayu shook his head.
"No, he is right. I'm not good enough for him, Pai. He deserves someone better. Someone who can make him happy, not someone like me."
Pai leaned forward, his voice stern but caring.
"Are you okay seeing him with someone else? What if someone proposes to him? Or worse, what if he finishes his studies and leaves this city? He could leave, and then what? You'd lose him forever."
The thought hit Phayu like a punch to the gut. His chest tightened at the idea of Rain leaving and being with someone else. He couldn't bear it. He couldn't lose Rain.
Suddenly, Phayu stood up,
"I've never apologized to anyone before, Pai. Never. What if he doesn't forgive me? What if he doesn't even let me speak?"
Pai smiled, standing up and patting his shoulder.
"That's what friends are for. I'll come with you. We won't tell him. We'll go to his university and talk to him. You need to do this, Phayu, for yourself and for him."
Phayu hesitated for a moment before nodding. He wasn't sure if he was ready, but he couldn't keep running.
As they were getting ready to leave, Pai looked at Phayu and said,
"Don't think about whether he'll forgive you or not. Just focus on the fact that you made a mistake, and you need to apologize for it. Whether he forgives you or not, that's up to him. But at least you won't carry the guilt of not trying. Say your piece, tell him your side of the story, and leave the rest to him."
Phayu hesitated.
"What if... what if he still doesn't forgive me?"
"Stop thinking negatively!"
