POV: SAINT

I was nervous. He told me he would send someone to pick me up to talk about the mate issue. That made me nervous.

I still didn't know his name. Everyone calls him Alpha. He was the most beautiful man I've ever seen. His blonde shoulder-length hair and grey eyes fit him so perfectly. Standing in front of him, I stuttered so much. I can't believe I couldn't arrange my thoughts into words properly. But who would blame me? He was so intimidating.

I turned, laying on my left side and drawing small circles on the sofa. I got home hours ago and my mom had bombarded me with questions. He said not to tell anyone about the whole mate stuff but I couldn't help but tell my mom about it. She was happy and wished to meet him. I just couldn't shake off the feeling that everything isn't going to be fine.

I look at the clock, it's 2pm. Didn't he say someone was going to take me to his house? Did he forget? How can he forget? A knock from the door drags me out of my thoughts. I opened the door to see a man standing there. He looked older than me but we we're kind of the same height.

"I'm Sam, delta of the pack. Are you saint?" he asked

"Yes that's me" I answered.

"The alpha wants to see you. I was told to take you to his house" he told me.

Finally, I thought he forgot. "Okay, give me a sec" I said and rushed to my mom's room to tell her I was leaving.

I followed Sam to the alpha's house. It wasn't far, a 15 minutes walk. It was quiet though, no attempt to small talk was made.

When we got to his house, Sam knocked and a woman answered.

"Oh good afternoon Samantha, I didn't know you were here. The alpha told me to bring him here" Sam said, politely.

The woman looked at me, a smile coming to her face. " Come in. He's not home yet, he'll soon get here" she said, stepping aside.

I entered and could perceive his faint scent. It smelled so good. The living room was medium sized with fancy and expensive decorations. I heard Samantha say a few words to the Sam before she shut the door.

"Have a seat, he'll be home soon". I nodded and sat down. "We haven't introduced ourselves, I'm his older sister Samantha" she said with a smile.

I returned it. "I'm saint, I came from another pack through the yearly mission"

"Alright then, I'll be in the kitchen if you need something" she said and left.

I looked around and several pictures of him with a woman and a child were hung up on the wall. A particular picture caught my attention. It was a picture of him and the woman, gazing into each other's eyes. They looked at each other like they were the only thing that mattered.

I swallowed the saliva I didn't know was stuck in my throat.

Was he married? Was it an arranged marriage since he hadn't met his mate? And the child? Oh goddess, he has a child with her. I felt uneasy. Was this why he was cold towards me earlier? He was happily married with a child.

No, I shouldn't come to conclusions yet. It is hard to stick to that thought when these pictures seem to taunt me. I got up and went closer to the picture. I stared at it before his deep voice spoke,

"You shouldn't snoop around in someone's house" I turned around and he stood there with a frown on his face.

"I- I'm sorry" I rushed out before going to sit back at the sofa.

His sister came out from the kitchen. "You're back. Delta Sam said you wanted to speak to him." She said giving me a glance. " Is anything wrong?" She asked.

"No sis, it's nothing I can't handle" he told her.

"Alright. I'll be in the kitchen" she said and left.

He turned towards me. "Let's talk in my study room. Follow me." He walked upstairs. I followed him.

We entered the study room and he told me to have a seat. It went quiet after that. I wanted to say something, anything, but I didn't want to sound the way I did earlier at his office.

He broke the silence. " I'm Jackson, alpha of the New Moon pack"

His name is so perfect. "I'm saint, a new pack member" I said.

"I know" he said blankly.

"Oh, uh okay"

He sighed. "Look, I know that we're mates and all of that but I'm sorry I can't return those feelings. I can't be your mate" he told me. Hi words were sharp, cutting me deep.

"W-what?" I asked, my voice failing to sound audible.

"I have been mated before. Those pictures in the living room are my family and I."

Family?

"My son and I are happy together. I don't know why the moon goddess brought you here. I clearly don't need a mate. I'm fine with my son" he said with a frown, reminding me that he was serious.

Is the moon goddess playing a joke on me? Is he going to reject me now? This is it? I didn't get to experience a mate's love?

"But I'm not going to reject you" he continued as if reading my thoughts. "The consequences are to fatal and risky. We'll just maintain the bond but in a platonic way. I won't put my pack and family at risk because of you" he said, his gaze burning into me.

Where did the air in this room go? I couldn't breathe. I didn't know what to reply to all that. Agree? No, I don't want that. Disagree? I can't force him to love me. I stood up abruptly, the chair falling backwards with a loud bang.

"I'm sorry but I have to go" I say with unshed tears blurring my vision. I ran out of the room, trying to remember my way downstairs. I blink my eyes repeatedly, hoping the tears would go away and the pain would melt.

I managed to find my way downstairs and ran into the Chris with two little children. A boy and a girl.

"Saint, what's-" I ran out of there before he could finish. I didn't know my way back to the apartment and I didn't find it in me to ask for directions from any of the pack members that passed by.

My vision didn't stop getting blurry which made some of them look at me weirdly.

"I can tell you don't know your way back. I could drop you off if you want" a voice said behind me. I turned to see the alpha's sister, Samantha.

"If you don't mind" I said., my voice thick with sadness.

"It's fine, get in" she said, walking to her car.

We got in and she started driving. "Is anything wrong? You left there crying?" She questioned.

"No, I'm fine" I clipped out. I didn't want to talk to anyone, especially the alpha's sister.

"It's fine if you don't want to talk. Here" she said taking tissue from the glove box and handing it to me.

I muttered a small 'thank you' and wiped my tears. The car was silent till we got to the apartment.

"Thank you for dropping me off." If it wasn't for her, I would have still been there. A crying mess.

"If you need anything feel free to reach out to me okay?" She said with a small smile.

"Okay. Thanks again" I said and got out of the car.

Getting inside, I met my mom in the living room. She looked at me, a frown coming to her face. She stood up. "Saint what's worng?"

I ran into her arms, breaking down completely. "He said he doesn't want me mom. My mate won't love me" I said, crying into her arms.

"It's okay my love, it's okay" she comforted, hugging me tight.

I just cried more.
