-A Halloween Secret-

The Halloween party was in full swing, with music thumping and orange and purple lights casting eerie shadows across the room. Costumed guests mingled, laughing and sipping drinks, while the faint smell of pumpkin spice and popcorn lingered in the air.

Kylie stuck close to Malia like a shadow, her witch's cape trailing behind her as she clung to Malia’s arm. Malia, in her sleek vampire costume, held a cup of punch in her free hand, pretending not to notice the knowing smiles Ruby and Josh were shooting their way from across the room.

“Seriously, Kylie,” Malia murmured softly, glancing down at her. “If you hold onto me any tighter, people are going to start asking questions.”

“Let them,” Kylie muttered, burying her face in Malia’s shoulder for a moment. “You’re warm, and I’m freezing.”

Malia sighed but couldn’t hide the small smile tugging at her lips. Kylie always got clingy when she was tired—or cold—or just wanted attention.

Across the room, Morgan leaned against the couch, dressed as a pirate with an oversized hat that kept sliding into her eyes. She nudged Dara, who was lounging in her Frankenstein costume. “Look at those two,” Morgan said with a smirk, jerking her chin toward Kylie and Malia. “You don’t think…?”

Dara raised an eyebrow. “Think what? That Kylie’s a human magnet? She’s been glued to Malia all night.”

“No, I mean, they’re… together together,” Morgan said.

Peder, who was halfway through a handful of candy corn, perked up. “Wait, are you saying they’re dating?”

“Seems like it,” Dara said, tilting her head. “Look at them. Kylie’s practically cuddling her in the middle of the party.”

Ruby and Josh, sitting nearby, exchanged a glance. Ruby bit back a laugh, while Josh sipped his drink, doing his best to look innocent.

Finally, Morgan couldn’t hold it in anymore. She crossed the room with Dara and Peder trailing behind. “Okay, question,” she said, planting herself in front of Kylie and Malia.

Kylie froze, gripping Malia’s arm even tighter. “Uh, what’s up?” she asked, her voice a little too high-pitched.

Morgan grinned. “Are you two… like… a thing?”

Malia stiffened, her expression carefully neutral, but Kylie’s cheeks turned red as a pumpkin. “W-What? Us? A thing? Why would you think that?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Dara said, smirking. “Maybe because you’re clinging to her like she’s your personal heater?”

Peder nodded sagely. “And because you keep whispering to each other all night. Super sus.”

Kylie opened her mouth, but no words came out. Malia sighed, stepping in smoothly. “She’s just cold,” Malia said casually, though the corner of her lips twitched like she was holding back a laugh. “And we’re good friends. That’s all.”

“Sure, sure,” Morgan said, clearly unconvinced. “But if you ever do get together, let us know. We’ll throw a whole other party just to celebrate.”

As they walked away, still chuckling, Kylie let out a groan. “That was so close.”

“They’re not buying it,” Josh said as he and Ruby approached, laughing.

“Nope,” Ruby agreed, her fairy wings fluttering as she grinned. “But you’ve gotta admit, you two don’t make it easy. You’re about as subtle as a skeleton in neon lights.”

Malia chuckled, looping an arm around Kylie’s shoulders now that no one was looking. “Maybe next time, we should just tell them.”

Kylie leaned into her with a sigh. “Or maybe next time, I’ll wear a warmer costume so I don’t out us with my clinging.”

“Good plan,” Malia teased, brushing a kiss to the top of Kylie’s head. “But for now, I don’t mind keeping you close.”

And for the rest of the night, even with suspicious glances and knowing smiles, they stayed wrapped up in their little secret, safe in the warmth of each other’s presence.
