-A Day for Red-

Auradon Prep was abuzz with its usual rhythm of classes, activities, and the occasional harmless mischief. Red, the spirited and rebellious princess of Wonderland, was a source of that mischief more often than not. Her fiery personality, sharp wit, and endless energy made her a legend among the students. Beside her, always steady, was Chloe Charming, the calm, composed princess of Cinderellasburg.

Their relationship was something that puzzled many. Chloe’s soft elegance contrasted so starkly with Red’s wild nature that their bond almost seemed improbable. But anyone who spent time around them could see the balance they brought to each other. Chloe grounded Red, and Red reminded Chloe how to live freely.

Yet on this particular day, Chloe was called out of her History of Royal Etiquette class by Principal Uma. Normally, this might have been cause for worry—Red getting into trouble was a regular occurrence. But when Chloe stepped into the principal’s office, her worry turned into something far more tender.

There, sitting cross-legged on the carpet with her skirt in a messy heap around her, was Red. But she wasn’t her usual fiery self. Her eyes were wide with childlike wonder, her hands busily tying knots in the ribbon of her dress.

“Chlo-Chlo!” Red exclaimed, her voice high-pitched and bubbly, as she waved excitedly.

Chloe blinked in surprise, glancing at Principal Uma, who stood with her arms crossed but an unusually patient expression.

“Miss Charming,” Uma began, her voice softer than usual, “Princess Red is experiencing a rare phenomenon known as age regression. It’s likely brought on by some emotional trigger or accumulated stress. She’ll be fine, but for the time being, her mind has reverted to that of a younger self.”

Chloe looked back at Red, who was now humming a nonsense tune and giggling to herself. “So… she’s a child right now?”

“Essentially, yes,” Uma confirmed. “And I believe she needs someone she trusts to look after her until she recovers. I’m excusing you both from your responsibilities for the day. Take care of her, Chloe. She’ll need your patience and care.”

Chloe didn’t hesitate. “Of course. I’ll take her back to our dorm and make sure she’s okay.”

Red clung to Chloe’s arm as they walked back to their shared dorm room. Her usual confidence was replaced with a shy, clingy demeanor that Chloe found both endearing and heart-wrenching.

“Where are we going, Chlo-Chlo?” Red asked, her voice small.

“To our room,” Chloe said gently. “We’ll have a fun day together, okay?”

Red’s eyes lit up. “Fun? Can we play? I wanna play knights and dragons!”

Chloe smiled softly. “We can do whatever you want.”

Once they were back in their dorm, Chloe set to work transforming the room into an impromptu playground. She fashioned a makeshift sword out of a cardboard tube and handed Red a wooden spoon to serve as her weapon.

“Alright, little rebel,” Chloe said, crouching to Red’s level, “you’re the dragon, and I’m the knight here to defeat you!”

“No way!” Red declared, her earlier shyness melting away. “I’m the scariest dragon ever, and knights can’t stop me!”

What followed was an hour of chaotic laughter and pretend battles. Red dashed around the room, roaring and breathing imaginary fire, while Chloe gave her best dramatic performances of being defeated over and over again.

Eventually, the fierce dragon grew tired and collapsed on the floor, giggling. Chloe joined her, lying beside her on the carpet.

“You’re so good at this,” Chloe said, brushing a strand of hair out of Red’s face.

“I’m the best dragon,” Red said with a grin, her energy already starting to fade.

“Definitely the best,” Chloe agreed.

As the day went on, Chloe tried to sneak in some studying. She knew her exams were coming up and couldn’t afford to fall behind, but Red’s playful antics made it difficult. She kept poking Chloe’s arm, hiding her textbooks, and giggling whenever Chloe tried to scold her.

“Red,” Chloe said with mock sternness, “you need to let me study for a little while.”

“But I’m bored,” Red whined, crossing her arms dramatically.

Chloe sighed, setting her books aside. “Alright, how about this: if you let me study for just one hour, I’ll take you to the gardens after, and we can pick flowers together. How does that sound?”

Red’s eyes lit up instantly. “Deal!”

True to her word, Chloe took Red to the royal gardens as the sun began to set. Red skipped ahead, her small basket filling with colorful flowers, while Chloe trailed behind, watching her partner’s carefree joy with a mix of awe and affection.

“Look, Chlo-Chlo!” Red exclaimed, holding up a bundle of daisies. “These are my favorite!”

“They’re beautiful,” Chloe said, kneeling beside her.

Red giggled, plucking one of the daisies and tucking it behind Chloe’s ear. “Now you’re beautiful, too.”

Chloe laughed softly. “Thank you, little rebel.”

By the time they returned to their dorm, Red was yawning and rubbing her eyes. Chloe helped her change into a soft nightgown and tucked her into bed, sitting beside her as she stroked Red’s hair gently.

“Chlo-Chlo?” Red mumbled sleepily, clutching Chloe’s hand.

“Yes, Red?”

“You’re the best knight ever,” she whispered, her eyes fluttering shut.

Chloe smiled, leaning down to press a kiss to her forehead. “And you’re the fiercest dragon.”

As Red drifted off to sleep, Chloe sat by her side, watching her breathe softly. It had been a day unlike any other, but one she would treasure forever.

Chloe knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment—a rare glimpse of Red’s vulnerability that she had been trusted to witness. It reminded her just how deep their bond truly was. And as she watched Red sleep, she silently vowed to always be the steady, loving presence her little rebel could rely on.
