I woke up in a dark place, disoriented and uneasy. The air was still, thick with the earthy scent of damp soil and decaying leaves. As my eyes adjusted to the low light, darkness cloaked the forest around me, transforming familiar trees into looming silhouettes. I wasn't sure how I had ended up here, but fear curled its fingers around my heart. The shadows danced between the trunks, and in the distance, I saw two figures stepping into the faintest glow filtering through the branches.

I held my breath, panic rising with each passing second. Who were they? Had I been kidnapped by the Alpha? The tales of a beastly figure that prowled the woods, preying on the unsuspecting, sprang to mind, leaving me even more petrified. I cringed as they approached, each step echoing ominously in my ears.

Finally, they came close enough for me to make out their forms. Two women, ethereal and almost ghost-like, yet somehow familiar. It sent a shiver down my spine. I didn’t recognize them, but there was an inexplicable bond pulling at something deep within me, like a distant memory I couldn't quite recall.

“Nyx, I did it for you,” said the woman on the right, her voice soft yet echoing through the still night.

The words stopped my heart. “Who… who are you? How do you know my name?” Fear gripped my voice, trembling as much as my body.

“Nyx.” The left woman stepped forward, her voice a quiet ember among the shadows.
“You have to find the way back. Or else you will struggle even more.”

“Struggle? What do you mean? I don’t understand!” The world spun around me, darkened trees closing in, and I felt suffocated by their words. “Stay away from supernatural creatures? Are you talking about the Alpha?” I was talking in circles now, desperately trying to grasp the fragments of this bizarre puzzle.

“You don’t understand everything,” the right woman replied, a trace of urgency underlying her tone, “but you have to trust us. You had to die; it was your fate. Everything leads by fate.”

“What? Wait, what? I’m dead? No, no, no, you’re lying!” The air felt heavy around me, my insides twisting as if I had just plummeted off a cliff or stood on a precipice with no way back.

“Not for long,” the left woman said, her eyes holding an intensity that made me feel seen, truly seen, in a way I hadn’t felt in years. “We are here to take you back, but you have to be careful, Nyx."

As they began to turn away, my heart raced. The woods felt darker, more menacing without them near. “Wait! Don’t leave! What am I going to do?” I called out, panic elevating my voice into a scream that shattered the stillness of the night.

“Run,” the right woman called back, her silhouette outlined only by the dim light that surrounded them. “Find the truth, follow your heart. Everything you seek is within you.”

A jolt of fear gripped me as I desperately chased after them, branches snagging at my clothes and the underbrush tearing at my skin. “Please! Help me!” But no matter how much I summoned my strength, the distance between us grew.

Then the shadows flickered, and suddenly, they were gone—a void where only seconds ago the women stood. I stumbled to a halt, breathless and alone.

In the silence that followed, I was enveloped in the forest’s night sounds—the rustling of leaves, the hoot of an owl high above, the soft scurry of unseen creatures. I felt a weight press down on me, a sense of longing for the connection I'd felt with those two mysterious figures.

I had to gather my thoughts. I was here for a reason, but what did they mean by fate? I closed my eyes, trying to remember, striving to ignite the threads of memory. A flicker of images ignited behind my eyelids: faces, laughter, pain. I saw glimpses of a life that felt like someone else's but was also achingly familiar.

With an unexpected resolve, I stumbled deeper into the forest, the direction of the women now pulling at my heart. If I was dead, then this place was an in-between, and I could either let fear consume me or find my way back.

As I trudged forward, guided by instinct rather than certainty, the air thickened around me. My senses heightened, and I felt it—the tingling energy of the supernatural gathering at the edges of the woods, shadows whispering and winding around me. I paused, remembering the women’s warning, my heart pounding like the wings of a trapped bird.

“Stay away,” I muttered to myself, recalling their voices, but the allure of the unknown was too powerful. I took a deep breath, bracing myself against the encroaching darkness. I would not let fear decide my fate.

I pushed onward, moving through the trees with a newfound purpose, following the soft glow of lights that seemed to beckon me from further ahead. With every step, I felt something awakening within me—a mix of power and doubt.

But then, I saw them again—figures cloaked in shadows, swirling in an elaborate dance just beyond my reach. The energy felt electric, alive. As I stepped closer, a hushed voice called to me, “Nyx.”

Dread and excitement coursed through my veins. “Who are you?” I shouted into the night.

“Your past, your future,” came the reply, echoing hauntingly. “You must choose, Nyx. Remember who you are.”

The shadows began to close in, the air flickering with unknown magic, and I stepped forward, ready to confront the truth. The women were right; everything led by fate, and now, I must embrace it. The forest around me pulsed with energy, and I knew I was inches away from discovering all that had been hidden away—my true calling.

As the dance of shadows entwined me, a fire ignited within my soul. I would find my way back, and with it, reclaim my life from the depths of this forgotten realm.
