I was eight when I won my first junior league match. I had won bronze, and Amy had won gold. The pride and joy I felt for my sister winning was better than my excitement for my own award.

Amy had practiced endlessly all summer long to win this match. I knew she was nervous over it for a reason I never understood. She was amazing naturally.. Watching my sister play was just as moving as it was watching someone like Serina and Venus Williams for me. I wanted to be just as good as her.

After photos and praises, our parents took us out to eat at the local pizza place, Fizzy's Pizza. Wells and I gushed over Amy's gold and our parents looked happy. Laughing with one another.

"One day I'll get gold." I told my siblings. "We could both win gold together!"

"You both can't win gold." Wells corrected me. "Only one person can get first place. Not two people."

"We could take turns! I get gold next time and then Amy gets gold!"

"Why would Amy get second best, when she could get first best. If you want gold, Al's, you have to work as hard."

"We could play doubles together." Amy spoke up.

I looked at my sister with wide eyes, imagining the possibilities of us being a team. We could win together and play together. I smiled a gappy smile and nodded my head excitedly.

"Mama!" I exclaimed running around the table to my parents. My dad picked me up and set me in his lap. "Amy and I will be a team!"

"A team?" My mom raised her eyebrow looking at Amy. "You don't want to do singles?"

"Maybe later, but I want to play with Allie." Amy told our mom picking at her half eaten pizza.

"Isn't that cool, mama?" I pushed not knowing the silent argument my sister and mom were having. "We could both win gold!"

"That's the spirit." My dad chuckled, tickling my side.

My mom was quiet, just smiling at me and probably didn't think I could hear, but I did. Her words stick with me with every match.

"Only one can win gold."
