The sharp buzz of his alarm clock pulled Masuo from a restless sleep. He groaned, reaching out to smack the snooze button, but the ache in his arm reminded him why he felt like he'd been hit by a truck. Memories of the fight the night before, the hundred punks, the kid with the orange hair, and the bizarre encounter with Ichigo's family, flashed through his mind.

Masuo sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. The sunlight creeping through his curtains did little to brighten his mood. His first day at Karakura High, and he already felt like he'd run a marathon. "Great start, Masuo," he muttered.

In the kitchen, the TV droned on in the background as he poured himself a cup of coffee, his mother's ring catching the morning light as he turned the mug in his hand. The news anchor's voice barely registered until a particular phrase caught his attention.

"Authorities are investigating a violent attack near Karakura's commuter station late last night. Several bystanders reported strange disturbances, though no suspects or motives have been identified. Witnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with significant structural damage..."

Masuo frowned, glancing at the screen. The camera panned over cracked pavement, shattered windows, and a toppled streetlight. Yellow caution tape cordoned off the area, but no clear explanation was given for what had caused the destruction.

"Another weird thing happening in this town," he muttered. "Just my luck."

The footage shifted to interviews with witnesses, their vague and inconsistent descriptions of the event only fueling Masuo's unease. One woman insisted she'd seen "a monster with glowing eyes," while another claimed it was "a freak gas explosion."

Masuo switched off the TV with a shake of his head. "Crazy people."

By the time he stepped outside, the morning was in full swing. The streets were buzzing with activity as students and commuters hurried along. Masuo adjusted his bag over his shoulder, the soreness in his muscles easing slightly as he stretched.

The walk to Karakura High was uneventful until he heard a familiar voice behind him.

"You're limping. Don't tell me last night was too much for you."

Masuo turned to see Ichigo catching up, his expression as gruff as ever.

"I'm fine," Masuo said, though the faint smirk tugging at his lips betrayed his annoyance. "I'd ask how you're holding up, but considering you've got a family of lunatics, I'm guessing you're used to it."

Ichigo rolled his eyes. "Yeah, it's a circus, but I manage. You excited for your first day?"

Masuo snorted. "Excited isn't the word I'd use. High school's high school, no matter where you are. But if I run into another hundred guys looking for a fight, I'm heading home."

"Sounds like you've got a magnet for trouble," Ichigo said, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Better get used to it if you're hanging around this town."

Their conversation was cut short by a sharp chill that crawled up Masuo's spine. He stopped in his tracks, his head swiveling toward an empty alley nearby. "What the hell...?"

Ichigo froze too, his eyes narrowing. "You feel that?"

Masuo frowned, his heartbeat quickening. "Feel what? It's... I don't know. Like something's wrong."

Before Ichigo could respond, a scream cut through the air. A young girl darted out from the alley, her face pale with terror. Masuo recognized her, she was the same kid Ichigo had mentioned saving a few days ago. But she wasn't running alone.
