The bright rays of sunlight shone through the window and lit up the small one-room apartment with bright light, but that didn't bother Eddie. Instead of getting up, he turned over on his other side and closed his eyes, but he quickly noticed that something was slowly starting to pull on his blanket.
»Hmph. Stop it«, Eddie grumbled sleepily.
»We have to get up«, Venom countered in his mind.
»Can't you just let me sleep in?« Eddie once again wished for a mute switch for Venom. Despite the fact that it had been a year since he had been living with the symbiote, he still hadn't really gotten used to hearing its voice in his head at all times.
»But there isn't! And to answer your question: No. Today is the appointment with the Life Foundation's lawyers, if I may remind you.Besides, we're hungry.«
Another thing he wouldn't get used to: Venom could read his mind at any time, much to Eddie's displeasure.
»Five more minutes.«
»No, right now.« And with those words, Venom pulled Eddie out of bed, manifesting a tentacle on his foot, sticking it to the floor and pulling so that they ended up landing unceremoniously on the floor, along with the blanket.
»Get up.«
»You're annoying«, he replied, annoyed.
Eddie took a deep breath and eventually stood up. He picked up the blanket from the floor and threw it back on the bed. He turned around and looked at his apartment. The red couch was crooked in the room, there were plastic wrappers for chocolate bars and other sweets everywhere on the floor, and here and there even those crumbs. The dishes were piling up in the kitchen and, to make matters worse, there were several oversized holes in the ceiling that testified to Venom's madness for destruction. In order to get it under control, Eddie had hung up an old tire in the middle of the room, which he now looked at with pity. It was half torn, making it difficult to read the inscription: SNOOKY.
Two chickens, which Venom had named "Sonny and Cher," were quietly pecking around on the ground. Originally, the two were intended for Venom's insatiable hunger in an emergency. But he had grown to love them so much that he wouldn't touch them. To survive, he needed a chemical called phenylethylamine, which, to Eddie's dismay, is only found in brains and chocolate, so they had to eat a lot of it, preferably the latter.
»We could also bite off a head or two. That would also save your wallet.«
You could practically hear his grin, but Eddie ignored his comment.
He went into the kitchen to make breakfast, but Venom was already letting some tentacles emerge from Eddie's back and was already getting to work himself.
»I'll take care of breakfast today.«
»All right«, Eddie said.
That probably meant that there wouldn't be one after all. Venom wasn't exactly known for his outstanding cooking skills, although he didn't really care what he cooked: undercooked or burnt didn't matter at all. The main thing was to eat something.
Eddie got another juice from the fridge and watched Venom for a moment as he started to destroy the kitchen. He opened cabinets and drawers at random and began to get eggs and bacon out of the fridge, which Eddie had to dodge as he left the kitchen to sit at the small dining table by the window. He closed his eyes and blocked out the noise as best he could. But the moment of relaxation was destroyed when Venom tapped him with one of his tentacles and shoved a stack of letters under his nose.
