A few days later, Alex was released from the hospital and was questioned one last time at the police station before she was allowed to fly home. The flight was leaving the next morning and, to make matters worse, the police still had her things from the hotel as part of the investigation into the "kidnapping". But she had been told that she would get them back straight away.
During the questioning, she told them a lie that would have made any pseudologist jealous.
She reiterated several times that she was kidnapped and captured by Cletus Kasady. After that, she had been knocked out and couldn't remember anything. She only regained consciousness in the hospital.
They concluded that he must have had accomplices, which wasn't as wrong as she secretly thought. That would also explain the massive destruction of the city, which they had probably used explosives for. They put down the witness statements that spoke of "monsters" to delusions in view of the danger. And so they left her alone for the time being.
And the people of San Francisco could finally sleep again.
Alex was finally allowed to leave and was supposed to wait outside the archive so that her things could be returned to her. As she waited, lost in thought, someone tapped her on the shoulder from behind. She turned around and smiled when she saw Eddie in front of her.
»What are you still doing here?«, he asked.
»They confiscated my things of the crime scene from the hotel. They want to give them back to me. And you?«
»I wanted to get my things back too, but they want to keep them for a while«, he replied, somewhat annoyed, and sighed.
A man came out of the door and took out two large bags with clothes, devices and documents and pressed them into her hand.
She took the bags and thanked him. Then they walked to the exit. When they were outside, Alex stopped.
»Thank you both. For everything.« She looked at him and he smiled.
»You're welcome. And Venom wants me to tell you to take care of yourself.«
»I will.« She grinned.
»Can I visit you guys sometime?«
»Sure, anytime if you want.« He looked at her and then looked away, which made her assume that Venom was saying something to him.
»No, no way, buddy!« he called out quickly, looking shocked.
She laughed when Eddie looked like he was about to jump off the nearest skyscraper.
