I stood in the field, gently stroking Stella's mane. It was quiet, the only sound being the wind gently rustling the grass. I closed my eyes, taking in the calmness of it all. The house was quiet, of course, but nothing could compare to this feeling. The crisp air running through my fingers and blowing my hair back, the grass soft even through my boots, the other kids' usual background noise of chatter gone.
I could feel the soft rush of a river nearby, the whoosh it made faint but beautiful. A tendril of water snaked up from the stream and made its way towards me, slowly as to not spook Stella. I marveled at the way light refracted through it, making rainbows dance over my face. Despite having done this so many times, it never failed to amaze me.
"Should we go back to the house?" Stella asked.
"Probably. Let's stay a little longer though. It's nice out here." I replied, and she nodded.
"I do love it out here. It reminds me of back home." She said. I smiled. I knew she missed her home greatly, and no matter how much she liked it here it would never be the same. I made a ball of water in my hand before sending it up into the sky in a million little droplets, letting them rain down on my face. I let them linger there for a minute, the coolness refreshing under the heat of the sun. I returned the water to the river, merging it seamlessly into the natural flow.
Then I climbed back up onto Stella and made my way back to the house.
