Chapter 11: Her connectionIt was now 7:46 in the evening, and the mansion was busy with chores. Taehyung was at least doing his best to help them. Well, fortunately, they didn't get scolded, and Jungkook decided to take a rest instead. The maids were preparing for dinner since Jungkook might wake up very soon.
“The Valoris Enterprises has successfully launched their innovative product. CEO Jeong Jaehwa celebrated her success by giving free limited items for lucky buyers and first time who will buy the product an─”
The woman on the TV caught Taehyung's attention. He was just listening, but he happened to glance at the screen, and yet, his attention was piqued.
“Who is she?” Taehyung asked Sooyoung who was mopping the tiled floor.
“Oh? Didn't you know her? She's pretty popular because of her success in the business industry. It was reported a lot that she was giving donations to different charities. Also, she's still thriving even though what happened to her sibling.” Sooyoung told him.
“What do you mean?” Taehyung was curious.
“She's related to Sir Jeon; if you don't know, she's the sister of Sir Jeon's mother, who happened to get involved in an accident.” Sooyoung explained to him. “but there were a lot of odd rumors against her, like, for example, people blaming her for what happened to her sister's death. They believed her success started right after Madam's death, and believe it or not, she inherited a lot of Jeon's wealth, which was supposed to be given to Sir Jeon, but for some reason, her name appeared in the last will, and only the main company was given to Sir Jeon.” she added.
“That's... really odd.” Taehyung muttered.
“I know, right? I'm pretty sure her business before wasn't successful; she experienced multiple bankruptcies just a moment after the release of her business. She even tried to take the main company from Sir Jeon, if I'm not wrong, she was still going after it. That's the reason they weren't close to each other.” Sooyoung stated.
“I see,” Taehyung realized how complicated Jungkook's situation was.
“But why did you ask? Have you met her before?” Sooyoung asked while looking at him.
“Oh, it's not like that, I just thought she seemed familiar or something.” Taehyung lied, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Then, what's with the sudden interest in her?”
Taehyung flinched when he heard Jungkook's voice behind him. Startled, he immediately turned around to push him away, but he almost stumbled, yet Jungkook was quick to grab him by his waist before he could even fall.
“What do you think you're doing appearing behind my back just like that? You scared me.” Taehyung felt like his heart was about to escape his chest that time.
“You were so lost with your topic that you didn't even hear me going downstairs.” Jungkook retorted.
“Still, you should have made a noise or something, that's terrifying, you know.” Taehyung at least sighed in relief.
“What's with her?” Jungkook changed the topic.
“Huh?” Taehyung didn't get that.
“Why are you asking about Jehwa out of nowhere?” Jungkook asked him.
Taehyung cleared his throat and tf Jungkook through eye contact that he wanted privacy for both of them, which Jungkook understood.
“Ah, Sooyoung, can you please go and check the plant's situation in my garden? I think they were ruined because of the cats from the neighborhood.” Jungkook told her.
“Sure, Sir.” she bowed her head before proceeding to leave them alone.
Taehyung swallowed hard before he let out a sigh.
“Well, you see Jungkook, I met her earlier when I was out to buy something.” Taehyung admitted to him.
“What do you mean?” Jungkook was confused and curious at the same time.
“She seemed to know about my mom and told me to meet her to tell me something important. I think she's somehow related to my mother's death but I couldn't think of any reason for her connection with my mom. I've never met her before when I used to help mom with her work.” Taehyung explained to him.
“It's not a surprise if she's somehow part of it.” Jungkook retorted. “she's one of the people that I'm watching for. Everyone knew that she shouldn't have been part of the last will, but for some reason, her name appeared on it, and she even inherited huge sums of wealth from both of my parents. Your mother knew that the relationship between her and my parents was not good. They would often argue about the business because Jehwa would sometimes borrow some money but Mom wouldn't let her do that since most of the reason why Jehwa would go bankrupt was because of her gambling addiction and I've heard before that Mom found out that Jehwa has drug addiction as well.” he shared to Taehyung about Jehwa.
“Does that mean that she could be the culprit?” Taehyung was baffled and could barely understand everything.
“I couldn't be sure about that, she was one of the suspects when people pressured the authorities to investigate the case that they ruled out as an accident but when they did, Jehwa had an alibi and it was proven in the court during the trial, and since the case was back to zero after her proven alibi, the case suddenly ruled as an accident again.” Jungkook stated.
“Did you try to reopen it? I think that can be possible to do if you have enough evidence.” Taehyung suggested.
“I don't have enough evidence since everything that can provide as evidence in the accident was suddenly gone. I had to investigate on my own because I believed the authorities sided with her and paid to not properly investigate my parents' death. I couldn't trust them with the investigation knowing well that nothing good would come out.” Jungkook replied with a sigh.
“That's horrible...” Taehyung mumbled.
“And? Are you going to meet her? She's not the person you can trust.” Jungkook went back to the topic earlier.
“I wanted to... ” Taehyung uttered and looked at Jungkook in the eyes. “I wanted to know what she knew and her involvement with our parents' death. We might find out something that could help us solve everything.” he was determined to find out the truth.
“If that's want you want, but please be careful. Don't hesitate to call me if you need my help, okay?” Jungkook ruffled Taehyung's hair.
Taehyung smiled and nodded his head. But for some reason, he was anxious, yet he couldn't tell what it was. He felt something really strange as if something bad was about to happen.
